There are many of homeless people in Washington D.C. and the surrounding area, but about 13 years ago a handful of multi- faith congregations had an idea; they started serving breakfast and dinner to the homeless. They needed most where volunteers. They needed volunteers because, it benefits and brings the community together, it gives hope to someone and it shows how their contribution has made a different. First, it benefits and brings the community together. For instance, It brings people together in the community to work for one goal, either it be to help with fundraiser, school, sports, local family, aiding others or lending a helping hand to get a job done more effectively improve community life. For example, When a family loses their home and don’t have anywhere else to stay and a group of people help them by giving them a place to stay and host a benefit for them, the family’s faith will increase. Even though that family has lost everything that they have, knowing and seeing that there own community is there to help them get through means everything. It comes to show you that there is hope for you and other people no matter what you are going through in life. For people to know that they have hoped will motivated them to do better. Thirdly, people see how their contribution has made a difference. To know that you have made a difference to someone is a great feeling. For instance, a difference can contribute to personal development in the areas of self –confidence, self- fulfillment, and self – esteem that often embellish in the midst of volunteering experiences.
