In high school, students are required to have a certain amount of community service hours, and volunteering plays an important role in that department. Volunteering is when you help out your community without being payed. But many high schoolers are too caught up in their social life to even care about volunteering much less the benefits to it. Most of the time students don’t realize the benefits of volunteering such as on a job resume. A job recruiter will see that you volunteer, these are great quality’s for a future career. So although students may hate volunteering it will help them in the long run. Above all High schoolers should want to volunteer for their future as well as for improvement for their communities. It helps them gain new
If schools wanted to encourage community service then they shouldn’t force students to do it. Schools should let students know about volunteering opportunities and possibly let them sign up for the school so that it is easier for them to do so if they want
Have you ever felt a desire to lend a helping hand for your community? If only all people felt like this, schools might not have to require hundreds of hours of volunteer work from their high school students. Across the country, more schools are requiring mandatory volunteer service as an additional graduation requirement for these students. Although volunteer work can be very beneficial for the community, the extra work should not be required for high school students because they will be caused greater stress, will have less academic focus, and they will have less time for their needs.
If someone is being forced to do volunteer work, they will not put forth any effort. If one is required to volunteer to graduate, they might have to do work they do not enjoy, and that will lead to failure and not graduating. Furthermore, there is only certain volunteer work that someone in high school can do. Also, if the school is requiring someone to do volunteer work, they would have to give less homework so the students will have time. Most teachers give homework to help a student understand the class better, so if a teacher gives less homework it would be a waste of time to even have the class if you do not understand the
It brings me great pleasure in helping others, no matter the situation. However, I enjoy volunteering by feeding others the greatest. In other words, I like to collect, package, and prepare food for those who need nourishment the most. It is great to know that someone will be receiving a fulfilling meal. For example, I have prepared and served dinner to homeless men and women, and Thanksgiving dinner to less fortunate children and their families. Growing up in a low-income family of seven, I completely understand why there is a need for food pantries and soup kitchens. Relating to those who are destitute, I remember the stories of my parents nursing me with donated formula as a baby because were unable to afford such necessities. I also
Volunteering is truly an amazing experience that I recommend each individual to do in their life during their spare time because it could benefit you with developing new skills and help others in their life. So far in my high school career, I have volunteered for many different organizations and some of those organizations helped other people. I have enjoyed volunteering very much and the ones that have changed my life and helped me become the person who I am right now are volunteering at the Longmont Public Library, St.vrain Habitat for Humanity, and packing food for homeless people at my church.
Published by the University of Pennsylvania, an article reports that a few of the motivations for students to continue volunteering are displaying the time and effort in assisting an organization or program to others and also expanding one’s connection: “motivations collected [for volunteering are] … to put on [a] résumé when applying for a job [and] to make new contacts that might help a business career” (Cnann). Showcasing an abundance of unobligated hours on a résumé will aid one’s chances to stand out from the crowd and receive an academic and community service-based scholarship. Additionally, knowing recognized, respectable figures within scholarship committees will greatly benefit in one’s favor because the member could vouch positively for the applicant and persuade everybody else to believe the same. From a previous source by Dana Bradley, she continued later in her article that volunteerism affects productivity in people, providing structure on daily basis (Bradley). To illustrate, a student, who is able to balance both service and academic needs, will make sure that his or her duties are completed on time and in an orderly fashion. In a like manner from thebalance.com, Joanne Fritz includes that “seventy percent of Millennials share their skills with charitable causes, but their volunteer hours also make
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
Volunteering enables an individual to make a positive impact on his or her community, while empowering the individual to better his or her life. This summer, I had the opportunity to volunteer at many diverse locations. From the hospital to the local library, I truly value my experience and treasure everything it has thought me. Volunteering lets us experience and learn things that we otherwise would not have learned; volunteering opens doors for us that we may not have been able to open before. Volunteering provides us with guidance and tolerance which we may use in the future to aid us in our decisions. At first glance, volunteering may seem to only benefit those who are helped, but on a deeper level, one can realize that volunteering benefits the volunteer as much as, if not more than, those who are helped. Not only does volunteering make a difference in one’s community, but it also helps the volunteer become a smarter, happier, friendlier and more caring individual.
High School students can make a beneficiary use through mandated community service. They can use that time to benefit themselves to pad portfolios, or use that time to help those in need. The effects of community service can vary from person to person but everyone in their own way can make use of it. The purpose of forming communities are so we can satisfy our needs, therefore it is a duty to everyone in a community to help one another. If we do not satisfy our needs, then the purpose of a community does not exist and communication is limited; contradicting our evolutionary tendencies. Community service is one service that shall stand the test of time.
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
In general, community service completed by high school students forms a more capable and responsive society. To form such a community, volunteer work should be required to graduate high school. This will boost the learning of students, and allow their education to grow and not be limited to school. When completing community service, students are placed in a surplus of different circumstances to help them grow. High schoolers also learn how to give back to society by volunteering in the community. Absolutely, volunteer work will give pupils a well balanced education incorporating both the heart and the mind, providing the means for these students to grow into mature adults who are involved and contributing positively to society.

"At first, some kids questioned why this would be required," he said. "But once they realized how beneficial it is, their resistance has been minimal." (Linda Saslow). What many people do not know is how much they will get out of their volunteerism. They learn more about themselves, those around them, and a lot of people find a very good passion through it. The problem with the Nebraska education system is that it does not require kids to have community service hours (High School Graduation Requirements), Iowa, our neighboring state, has adopted community service hours in some school districts and so have many private high schools within both states. Community service hour requirements are dying in our nation as a whole. Only two out of the fifty states still have a very heavy service hour requirement for their graduation requirement. For graduation the requirements need to change within the United States. Giving back to others out has slowed, and in some cases stopped all together. Kids do not understand what volunteering really is anymore, schools do not push it on student like they used to. Gretna High School only requires five hours of service to graduate. For those in National Honor Society, while some schools require their students to have as many as one hundred service hours to graduate from high
The definition of volunteering is “a person who volunteers himself or herself for a service or undertaking” (). Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes from picking up trash all the way to helping people find jobs. A common misconception of volunteering is that it only benefits those who receive attention from the volunteers, thus making people with genuinely selfless personalities being the only ones who volunteer. While this is true, it also holds false foundation. Everyone can and needs to volunteer, including the elderly. Volunteering helps the volunteer just as much as the people benefiting from it. The art of volunteering greatly helps the volunteer’s physical and emotional life.
