“I urge you to continue working hard to prepare for success and to become leaders in our community.” Frederica S. Wilson, a Member of Congress, wrote this in a letter given to me and a few other students after we attended the 5000 Role Models trip to the nation’s capital in 2017. I took this heart and have been preparing for success ever since then. I should be selected for this prestigious scholarship because I would use it to try to be as successful as possible. This scholarship will allow me to pay for college without the fear that comes with taking out loans and will enable me to become part of the first generation in my family’s history to go to college! I will be working towards a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and receiving
1.) In addition to excelling academically, Ron Brown Scholars feel a deep commitment to use the tremendous opportunities afforded them to give back to others. This is manifested in their dedication to personal involvement with the RBS Program and the hands-on community service work performed by each of the Scholars. A strong philosophy of the Ron Brown Scholar Program is that individual service on the grassroots level has the capability to affect great change on a global scale. With so many issues facing our communities today, what issue would you like to see addressed by our group and how would you leverage your potential position as a member of the RBS community to develop a solution?
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
When individuals think of scholarships, they tend to believe of the free money through the government, small or large business, and just a person who wants to make a difference. However, when thinking of scholarships, I realize the opportunities of organization(s) is helping me reach my dreams and goals throughout life. In addition, organizations helping reach my goals will influence other individuals to go through the same path as I am. During this essay, I’ll discuss the specific demographic that will help my patients by using my nursing skills, how my background has helped me realize the importance of contributing to my community, and most importantly the less fortunate than myself.
For this exercise, I wanted to focus on a case for support for nursing scholarships for undergraduate or graduate students in the state of Georgia. For the “Why us?” question, I wanted to incorporate storytelling and emotion. “Why now?” needed to provide a sense of urgency. And, “Why you?” needed to demonstrate a donor-centric tone and focus. If this were a real case, of course, this document would be around 1 page with an attractive visual appeal. It would also be reviewed and edited through many iterations with input from the board and others. This case for support could be used at events/meetings involving nurses or others in the healthcare field.

I strongly believe I deserve the “Courage to Grow” Scholarship, because ever since I can remember, my education has always been the first priority in my life. Being a determined and conscientious student, I maintained a 3.8 G.P.A. out of a 4.0 scale throughout High School, earning myself a spot on the Honor Roll list every semester. Even though learning does not come easy for me, because of my ADD, I never give up on my dreams. I also participated in many extracurricular activities such as Key Club- a volunteering organization, Book Club, and the Cheerleading team. Being a member of these clubs not only taught me leadership and communication skills, but also how to be a well-rounded student.
I’m not who I was or used to be. In ninth grade I struggled with finding myself and learning how to grow. A great deal of circumstances happened that derailed me, took me off my path and I wasn’t sure who exactly I was. I now know who I am. Three years later, I know that I’m stronger. Three years later, I am me. Three years later, I know that I was a member of the Pride of Broken Arrow. I treasured every bit of knowledge I was honored to receive and cherished all the tears and smiles shared. I learned several qualities about myself, others, the organization itself even!

Since my freshman year of high school at Jordan, I have been in the Aspirations in Medical Services, AIMS, Academy.
