Do you ever wake up on a school day and think of going back to sleep? As a part-time student, I wake up and always want to go back to bed when I hear my alarm for school. Once I get ready and go to school, my friends ask me if I am tired and I tell them everyone morning that I am and they say that they are too. Schools need to reconsider the starting time. Do you remember how tiring your sports were as you were in high school and college? My friends and I are participating in many activities and sports after school. Let alone going to school for seven hours, we lift and have sporting event for a total of four hours everyday after school year round. Therefore, it is hard for students to maintain their grades, it is hard to wake up for school and get there on time, and is it hard to have a positive attitude towards school.
Grades are a major concern for students who participate in after school activities and sports. If schools start at a later time, students can get more sleep which can lead to better grades. "Thomas Conrad, principal of the 1,000-plus student school …show more content…

Therefore, they need to get the right amount of sleep. "When they get sufficient sleep, they awake more alert, resulting in an increase in academic performance and a decrease in dropout rates, absenteeism, tardiness, and disciplinary problems, among other benefits, according to some studies." (Thompson). Tardies and unknown absences can gather up in a hurry which can lead to school discipline. Also, after high school, colleges look at your attendance record and they won't want to see a bunch of absences and tardies. "Low-quality sleep and sleep deprivation also negatively impact mood, which has consequences for learning." (healthysleep.med.harvard.edu). With the lack of sleep these Harvard specialists are talking about, schools need to start later so students can have the ability to maintain a stable sleeping
