Delivering the highest quality of care to our patient is the ultimate goal of every nurse in this profession. Effective nurse-patient communication with the whole health team is essential in ensuring that this goal is met. Miscommunication or failure to communicate the patient information effectively among the health team can result in poor care, medical mistake and can even be harmful to the patient. From my personal experience I found mutual respect to be the foundation my nurse patient relation. I have to opportunity to meet patient from all walks of life, they often have a tremendous life experience, acknowledgment of their accomplishment in life, show respect for their views often open the door for the start of constructive conversation about their care. Problem solving skills are based in many ways on life experience. Giving my patient the opportunity to contribute in the planning of their care has made my job much easier thus promote positive outcomes. While my patients are sometimes older than me, they never missed the opportunity to ask questions about their care and learn from my nursing experience. I found great pride of having the privilege to teach them and help keeping them involved in their care, consequently they often more cooperative. In terms, I credited all these success to one the most intrinsic of the all principle communication, transparency and full disclosure principle. To obtain the respect of the patient, the nurse most be truthful and honest, while the patient is willing to learn, a lack of transparency understanding of the patient level in the learning process can set the stage for failure. There are as follows: Situation Briefing background assessment and Recommendations or SBAR which focuses on patient assessment, investigation and identification of the patient’s problem, solution plan and implementation techniques by the health care team. The Team Headlines technique provides an overview of the patient daily activity, gets the clinician involve, ensure that they are working toward the same goals everyone on the same page. This technique is certainly proven to be effective from my personal experience. When the entire team member is aware the goals, working together in harmony it promotes patient safety and shorten hospital stay and decreased the risks of complication. This technique is effective even while performing a simple task, like transferring the patient from bed to chair. When more than one staff members are involved with the procedure, it is important that they communicate between them as well as with the patient to help prevent injury to them and the patient. I have involved in many patient transfers, I have seen injury to both patient and staff members as a result of miscommunication, therefore it's important that nurses promote this communication technique, it can help prevent injuries.
