According to the Oxford dictionary the term respect means “A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities or qualities, or achievements”. Many people have their own way of interpreting words, these homemade definitions are gained from experiences or passed down from person to person. Simple words to some are just that simple words, but to other people they can be what they base their entire character on. In this world some people have a code maybe it is family or maybe it is courage, or maybe it is something more common something that is taught to all children at an early age the lesson of respect.

Often you will hear people say “Respect yourself” this is good advice for as Confucius once said “ Respect yourself and others will respect you”. Sometimes it can be hard to respect yourself like you should if you have depression or anxiety and that can make you start to hate yourself which is not healthy. If you have respect for yourself then you will make sure that others will respect you as much as you do. Respect can be gained in many different strange ways, some people earn respect for being tough others for being kind and the list goes on. An example of this is say your parents see you help an old lady across the street she did not ask you for help but you insisted, after seeing you do such a kind act your parents now have more respect for you. Respect is something that you can have not only in a person but also in things you could respect the work you do you can respect your country and so on and so forth.
