Introduction During Hitler's rule six million people were killed and double possibly triple that was injured just because of what he was trying to accomplish. The Franks, The Van Dann’s and Mr.Dussel have been in hiding for basically 2 years and one month and all of their personalities and relationships have either fallen apart or have grown stronger. By going the secret annex they hoped that they wouldn’t need to go to concentration camps. As time passes many historical events that occurred outside the annex influenced the moods and relationships of the characters. Body 1 The mood in the story change drasticaly based on what was going on outside " They surround the block then search house by house.Children come home and find their parents gone. Hundreds are being deported...people that you and I know ... the Hallensteins... the Wessels..." (Hackett, 130This new news to the group is very saddening because all of there friends and family is getting deported and leaving the country because of Hitler " oh no. No!" (Hackett,130) these quotes clearly show the mood and the tension in the annex. The actions of people don't just affect them they affect other people to like little was helping himself by hurting other people. Body 2 …show more content…
What I mean by that is the longer they stay in the annex the more they hate each other especially Mr. and Mrs. Vann Dann. " And please Mrs.Frank should cut the cake. What is the difference? It's not Mrs.Franks cake its Mieps for all of us. Mrs.Frank divides things better." (Hackett 160) This quote is Mr. and Mrs.Vann Dann arguing with Mr.Dussel about how Mrs.Vann Dann splits food unevenly. She always gives Mr.Vann Dann more than everybody else and Mr.Dussel doesn't like it he thinks it's unfair. Then Mr.Vann Dann steals food and that just makes everything even worse then it already
The tone and mood of this story is pretty dark when it comes to the main event in the assembly when Georg’s dad and other innocent people were killed. I personally think the main purpose of this book is to teach the reader how not only Jews were affected horribly during this time but many other innocent people and also to show the things these people would of done to be safe, for example, in the book Georg had to stay still in a suit case for a whole night so he could get on a train that is leaving the country, during that time he was not being allowed to move he would be in pain but he cannot make a sound either since he could get caught so he just had to me cramped in a suit case for hours in pain unable to speak. I personally feel like this part truly in depth showed what people went through just to be
But in the play by Melissa Muller shows that he cared about others in the Secret Annex and his family, which shows the readers that he is completely different then who Goodrich and Hackett made him because they wanted to make more tension. Although Goodrich and Hackett changed Mr. Van Daan’s role to a selfish man to add tension to the Secret Annex, this gives humanity a different view of him in a negative way for years on. From the biography by Melissa Müller, Mr. Frank’s role was to help the others, but Goodrich and Hackett made him a leader instead. When the SS officers went through the Secret Annex, Mr. Frank talked about him being in World War I. Mr. Frank says, “I was a reserve officer in the First World War” (Müller 9). This quote means that Mr. Frank was in the First World War and tries to help the others by talking to the other SS officer [Silberbauer]. Also, he is trying to help the others by reasoning with the officers that he was helping in the war, but this war made them go into the Great Depression. Müller says that he was helping the others through the arrest to prevent it, or save more time before they were taken away to the concentration camp. Another thing is that he was shown better at
To survive mentally in times of darkness, one needs a helper to keep them safe. The Franks and Van Daans were hidden in the Secret Annex by Mr. Kraler and Miep. Since, the members of the Secret Annex could not provided food and supplies for themselves, Miep and Mr. Kraler provided supplies for them through illegal means. This shows that others are willing to endanger themselves to help others that are in need. While in Bergen-Belsen, Anne got lice, which was common in the camp, and had to throw away all her clothes, when she went the Janny
The mood of Night is harder to interpret. Many different responses have occurred in readers after their perusal of this novel. Those that doubt the stories of the holocaust’s reality see Night as lies and propaganda designed to further the myth of the holocaust. Yet, for those people believing in the reality, the feelings proffered by the book are quite different. Many feel outrage at the extent of human maliciousness towards other humans. Others experience pity for the loss of family, friends, and self that is felt by the holocaust victims. Some encounter disgust as the realization occurs that if any one opportunity had been utilized the horror could of been avoided. Those missed moments such as fleeing when first warned by Moshe the Beadle, or unblocking the window when the Hungarian officer had come to warn them, would have saved lives and pain.
During World War 2 the Nazi were killing the Jews and placing them in concentration camps. It was a dreadful time for the Jewish people. In the story of Anne Frank the Frank family, Van Daan family, and Mr.Dussel hid in the secret annex because they were Jewish. The annex was a hidden section in Mr. Frank’s work building. In order to survive their attitudes and how they act plays a huge part in them working together to survive. Peter a shy boy of the Van Daans and Mr. Dussel a dentist are both loyal to their cause for surviving. Their attitudes are very different compared to each other, Peter is shy and quiet, while Mr. Dussel is loud and talkative. -The differences between Peter and Mr. Dussel’s attitudes impacts how everybody works together to survive.
Anne’s escaped the Nazis and anti-Semitism and went into hiding in the Annex. During her time in the Annex Anne grew in maturity. Very suddenly she was forced to undergo the change from a fairly free
Two characters that I choose for this assignment are a careless and impulsive character in this movie, John Bender, or known as “the criminal”, and a character that being known as a nerd, that is Brian Johnson, or known as “the brain”. In reference to Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, I categorized Bender and Brian in a formal operational stage, that is the final stage of the cognitive development stage. It is because, both of them shows characteristic of adolescent egocentrism. As for Bender, we can see that he had developed the sense of invulnerability because he had taken many physical risks and do not think about the consequences.**
All of these places were close to or where Jewish concentration camps, Auschwitz which is referred to in the book as a massive death camp, because of all of the gas chambers, burning pits, and just the millions of massacres that took place during WW2 in Germany. Buchenwald was the place where most of the political prisoners went which were the political peoples that Adolf Hitler did not like. Daniel and his father mostly stuck together somehow throughout the book and was separated from Erika and his mother. Yet that his mother died, Erika almost survived until the end where she was too weak to go on in life. Daniel says everything was supposed to be over but really it was just the beginning of the mourning that took place all over Germany for the
During annes life i don't think she thought in a million years that she would be stuck in a camp and kicked out of regular school and would have to go into hiding at such a young age. ¨When anne and her sister margot passed away in of the bergen-belsen concentration camp¨(herman)’annes dad otto frank was given anne's diary by a person who was in the concentration camp with anne and her sister and otto published it¨(davidson). And now since otto's office where anne and her family were staying and hiding the building still stands (its called the annex) they now call it the anne frank house(annex). The anne frank is important because it is proof where they hid and how they hid just sort of how they maintained everything and stayed alive it also shows there struggles of living there for example the tiny spaces or even the big spaces. “Anne and her family shared the annex with all together there were 7 people¨(james 1-2). Having to share would've been a struggle “they hid for 2 years until they were caught and all sent to concentration camps¨(james).Annes life was not a normal kids life but she made it through all she could.Anne frank is very
In the book of Anne Frank there are the Van Daan’s and the Franks. Then there's the people that help them which are Mr. Kraler and Miep. the Van Daan’s and Frank’s are in hiding because they were taking jews to concentration camps and had to go into hiding. They were hiding in a place called The Secret Annex in Amsterdam. In my Essay today I will be talking about who showed courage, compassion, and sacrifice.
What an incredible night we had last night. November 21, 1934 seemed like it would be just an ordinary Wednesday night, a little over a week before Thanksgiving, as we trudged off to a rent party at 143rd and Lenox.
Yelling, anger, and selfishness. This is what you usually get from Mr. Van Daan. In the Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Mr. Van Daan is a very ill-tempered man, always yelling at the kids. He is also pretty self centered which leads him to be very hypocritical too. These three traits show strongly throughout the play when times her a little rough and there are a lot of quotes backing these claims up too.
To John Van Sloten, nothing is off limits to God’s redeeming power. That is, nothing in this world is void of God’s presence. God did not simply create the world, take a step back, and allow humans to fend for themselves. Instead, God is actively involved in every aspect of his creation. It is important to note that we humans have perverted creation and have altered the God-intended uses and purity of everything we touch. While our actions continue to taint and pollute God’s creation, God is still evident in everything. His truth glimmers through the waste we have created. Van Sloten argues that we should not avoid this waste but should, instead, seek God’s truth within the waste we have created.
Hitler killed six million people among the people killed are the Franks and Vaan Daans. Before they were caught and killed they went into hiding in a secret annex that was hidden from the outside world. Being hidden from the outside had drastic changes on the characters moods and actions. As time passed, many historical events that occurred outside the annex influenced the moods and relationships of the characters.
The year is 1942; the Frank family went into a hiding place. It was placed behind a door that was concealed behind a movable book shelf; there were 8 people up there, the Van Pels, Fritz Pfeffer, and Anne Frank’s family. Before this, Anne Frank was a normal teenager, going to movies with friends, and other normal things teens did in that time. The Germans would eventually take over the Netherlands and change Jewish people’s lives drastically. After this change; the Jews must wear the Star of David on their clothing with them everywhere so people know they’re Jewish, walk everywhere, only shop in stores specifically meant for the Jews, schools were changed so Jew...
