Some people say that overcoming obstacles is just in a matter of being prepared for life’s unexpected adversities, like illnesses or disabilities. But how can you be prepared for something that you believed that would have never happened to you? Alike many people who encounter their own conflicts, I also am one of them who struggles on a day to day basis. But fortunately I have learned to be strong, perseverant, and determined to help me with my own silent disability, that can’t be seen but I know it’s there.
My condition occurred during birth but it wasn’t until I was 15 that I was diagnosed with a talocalcaneal coalition on my right ankle. Doctors had told me that my bones in my ankle had not been fully separated during fetal development. Which eventually led me to my first surgery at the age of 16 which was unsuccessful. Now a year later, I was told that I had developed arthritis on my ankle and that I had to undergo a foot fusion. And till today I am waiting longingly for December 10th to finally feel again the relieve of a pain free life. …show more content…

Since starting the Running Start program, it has opened many opportunities that I would have never thought that I would receive at the age of 16. But ever since starting this program and till today, my mother has driven me to high school and to college every single day. She has even made time to pick me up from college on the days when I would have classes from 9 am to 8 pm. While I tried to take necessary courses to be able to receive my Associates Degree. Looking back I can sincerely say that I am eternally grateful for the support my mom has given me. She knows exactly how difficult it has been for me these past few years and how I yearn to continue my education to someday become an
