Although demanding, I think I did a very good job of giving an equal part of myself to each of my obligations. I believe that having many important obligations teaches you several things. Firstly, having a great deal of responsibilities teaches you to be dedicated to what you are doing and to be committed to do it well. Secondly, being busy and having many commitments allows for the development of strong time management skills. Although I had plenty of responsibilities, these skills allowed me to give the best of myself to all aspects of my life. Commitment and time management skills are important skills for nurses to possess. Nurses that are committed to their profession generally tend to put more effort into doing a good job of their career (DINAH GOULD AS CITED BY FRISS). Committed nurses are able to improve quality of care given as well as the experience of the patient as a whole (BAILLE). Nurses are forced to create a balance between all the responsibilities of their profession (TARAY JASMINE ARTICLE). Every little kid has high exceptions for what they want to be when they grow up. Some dream of becoming president of the United States of America, or becoming an Astronaut, a lot of little kid’s say that they want to be a Doctor. What kids do not understand is that there are many types of doctors, like an orthopedic surgeon, they work with feet, or an oral surgeon, who work with the mouth. Another similarity to a doctor is a nurse practitioner. They do many of the same tasks, like performing minor surges, fixing broken bones, or simply giving a routine check up. Becoming a nurse practitioner takes many years of schooling, good grades, a lot of time and dedication, and money.
From five years old up, I knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner. When I was around 13 years old my mom got very sick which had her in and out of the hospital, this only pushed me further in the direction of becoming a nurse practitioner. I would always see nurses in and out of my mom’s room when she was in the hospital, some were nice, others were not. I always tell myself, “You’re going to be one of the nice ones, the one that makes the whole ordeal just a little bit better.” However, to become a nurse practitioner, it takes more than fascination and curiosity; hard work and effort must be put in if there is any hope of succeeding in this field.
After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future.
It has to do with the mastery of a series of capabilities and skills like planning and setting of goals, in addition, to the efficient utilization of time to attain the desired outcomes. In time management and prioritization, nurses are usually making better decisions concerning what they do and the manner in which they do it, something that leads to improved performance and productivity. Therefore, the organization and management of time is important to nurses because it helps them accomplish and complete their tasks quickly with little effort and also avails time for them to pursue and seize opportunities (Said,
I will need to overcome some obstacles in order to accomplish my goals. Family obligations will challenge my time management and multitasking skills. Procrastination is one of the biggest obstacles I face. I will need to develop more patience as I feel demands of the family encroaching on my professional goals. I tend to be shortsighted and allow myself to feel overwhelmed rather than being able to keep everything in perspective.

Every nurse determines the way they will practice in the beginning of their career. More than likely these roles and values are created and sparked in nursing school. As time goes on, nurses dig deeper and establish who they are in their new role as a professional. When the metaparadigm of nursing and personal philosophy coincide with one another, individualized concepts, care, and professionalism are achieved and delivered in multiple settings. From a personal perspective, these concepts were established and developed very early in my career. Maintaining and establishing myself as a nurse remains a top priority ten years later in my practice.
