Everyday in this world, elderly, adults, teens or children become ill or get into accidents and need medical attention. Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is vital that a nurse understands that to be a nurse, you need a certain personality and understanding of the field. A nursing degree is a three year full time modular course designed to prepare students for their future role as a registered nurse and meets the new Nursing and Midwifery Council Standards implemented in 2011, ensuring that our graduates will be able to help shape the nursing workforce of the future (Nursing Course Summary, n.d.). Nursing is constantly evolving and changing, in order to be more efficient in providing care than in the past. The nursing profession includes professionals who are not only caregivers but support systems as well as educators. All these factors help to provide optimal care for patients and to also better serve their families and the community. All nurses are encouraged to break down the simplistic notion society has about the nursing profession because nursing is a multi-faceted profession encompassing many different factors that are beneficial to overall human development and health.
In nursing, the patient is often viewed as the main priority of the nursing staff. The nurse works to provide care for the patient based on the patient 's admitting diagnosis. However, the patient must be looked at as a part of the greater system they exist in such as their family or home environment. While the patient may be ill due to a bacterial infection or virus, their family environment also plays a role in their overall health and wellness.
Often time, nurses has been viewed by patients, their family members and the medical team as basic emotional care givers, pill crushers or cart pullers and not as healthcare professionals who are more interesting in health promotion, disease prevention and better patient outcomes. They also often forget the emotional, physical, mental, and caring part that is involved with the profession. And to make matters worse, nurses are continued to be viewed as a threat by doctors more than ever before especially with the opening of Nurse Practitioners programs.
According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses have many jobs and responsibilities and wear many different hats. Nurses can perform at many different levels depending on their scope of practice which is defined by the board of nursing in one’s state of residence. In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.
There are three different ways to become a nurse. You can become a Diploma Nurse, which are programs that are offered by hospital owned and operated schools of nursing. “Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.”(INFOhio). These programs will teach you the minimum training that you need to qualify for a Registered Nurse license, however, this is the quickest and cheapest way to become a RN.
Registered Nursing is a well-known job here in the United States and many other countries as well. RN’s play an important role in today’s society and contribute to the community a lot. Their job consist of keeping people healthy and caring for the ones who need it. I chose this topic for my research paper because I feel that it would be an interesting job and I would love to learn more about the field itself.
Registered nurses get the opportunity to save lives and make a difference in the lives of others. The nature of a nursing career is appealing, because it is ever-changing. As technology advances, so does the field of nursing; therefore, there is a lifetime of learning and gaining new skills. Nursing is an intensive program. It takes a minimum of a two year associates degree to become an RN, also referred to as a Registered Nurse. Because I am someone who easily obtains boredom, this job field sparks my interest. Since my early childhood, I have wanted to pursue this career. My grandmother is a RN, and the opportunity to help someone in need is something I would like to take advantage of. Nurses are nice, caring, loving people that will try everything they can to help them get a better understanding of their symptoms. Nurses help their patients by explaining their symptoms in easier ways. Nurses are always listening to their patients to understand what their trying to say and so they know how their feeling. Registered nurses are loving people who love all their patients. People that want to become nurses need to have a loving heart and would love to help people out. People who love helping others should become a registered nurse.
My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301.
The field of nursing provides one the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Nurses interact directly with patients at times of hardship, vulnerability, and loss. The nursing profession has been around for decades. Due to the contribution from historical leaders in nursing, the nurse’s role has progressed over time. Although the roles of nurses have evolved throughout the years, one thing has remained the same: the purpose in giving the best patient care.
Why I want to be a nurse? I have asked myself this question numerous times, and have come up with a variety of answers. I think that being a nurse just embodies the characteristics that I have innately had and characterizes the person I am now. Nursing is more than a profession to me; it encompasses my life in every aspect. Nursing challenges me, nothing is ever exactly the same each day. There are so many opportunities in nursing and so many ways to challenge myself and learn new things.
Nurses are an equally important part of each client’s life. Nurses provide stable care to each client, answer their questions, give medications and treatments, and assist with medical procedures. They also have the responsibility to explain to clients and family members what they should and should not do as they go through treatment and recovery. Nurses must quickly respond to patients needs. Every individual nurse has his or her own unique way of caring.
Defining what a nurse is varies from person to person. Some have described a nurse as a person who shows care to their patients while others say that nurses assist to regain the ill’s health back. There is no wrong answer in defining what a nurse is. Moreover, I believe that a nurse is one who treats their patients with the dignity and respect that they deserve, and assists them in promoting and preventing their health illness and lastly, enhancing their health to optimal status. Nursing is viewed as a human science because nurse must display a connection with each patient. One must view the patients as a person, who has feelings, who behaves a certain way and who deserve to be well cared for. In addition, nursing is not a profession that treats
They perform physical exams when someone needs released to return to work, school, and sports. They perform health histories so a patient knows what his or her health backgrounds are and what they are capable of inheriting. Nurses provide health promotions, counseling, and education. They give health promotions through schools, after checkups, and before you are released from the hospital. They give counseling when a patient is struggling to becoming healthy after a long term sickness. Nurses can provide education through school courses for anyone who is interesting in pursuing a nursing degree. They interpret a patient’s information and makes critical decisions with the doctor. They can direct and supervise care delivered by other healthcare personnel. If a nurse is a registered nurse (RN), then they are in charge of the lower nurse ranks such as LPNs (licensed practical nurses) and nurse aides. Nurse also conduct research in support of improved practice and a patient’s outcome.
