After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future. I had always been told that I was supposed to do well in high school, go on to college, and then I would be able to get a good job. So, that is exactly what I did, and that was not my case. I first went to college as soon as I graduated from high school. After changing my major a couple of times I decided on Criminal Justice. I was fascinated by the law and thought that since there was so much crime, there was no way I would not be able to get a job working in the field, and make a decent wage since I would have a degree. I told my parents thinking they would be just as excited for me and was shocked to find out they were totally against it. They told me that I would be dissatisfied if I chose that as a major, and that I would not be able to find a job. Being 18 at the time of course I felt that I knew more than them and went on to complete my studies and obtain a B.S. degree. Low and behold they were right. I applied everywhere that I could think of that offered a job in the criminal justice system. I applied for state jobs, federal jobs, and private companies. All of them were looking for someone with at least two years experience. I was dismayed and perplexed. How was I ever going to... ... middle of paper ... ...in. Having the second income will make it possible to obtain our dream home. Once becoming an RN I plan on getting my BSN and am contemplating getting my master’s degree as well and becoming a nurse practitioner. There are many options in the nursing field so I can change jobs within the field if I desire. It has taken me a long time to come to this point but I am now sure of what I want to do, and what I need to do to achieve my goals. Had I not gone through the countless jobs and educational paths, I would have never come to the one that I finally know I will love and it will benefit me as a person, and benefit my family financially. After finishing up term one of my nursing career, I can officially say I feel nursing is most definitely the profession I have been searching for. I have had an amazing experiences and practice by going to clinical which helped me improve upon my nursing skills and EOP SLO. It can be seen, being prepared, maintain professionalism and safe practice, having exceptional communication, respecting culture, adapting care across the lifespan, promoting health education, and having an admirable nursing process were all valued and demonstrated by me.

My career choice is becoming a Register Nurse. I have been working in the medical field for 28 years. I experienced many levels of nursing and decided it’s what I want to become. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. Throughout these years, I have been faced many challenges.
