Summer is kind to Auggie because she sat by him in the first day of school at lunch. When the kids went to lunch all of them were trying to avoid him and Summer went over to where he was sitting and sat by him when no one else would. According to Jama Network, when a high school in Rhode Island changed the school start time to 8:30 rather than 8:00, there was a 38.3% increase in getting eight or more hours of sleep every night. Grades and attendance were also among the improvements shown in students. Teachers were also showing a better amount of sleep when the schools began a later start time. (Jama Network). These improvements can help shape a student’s future. Without a change in a school’s start time, middle school and high school students tend to have poor sleep patterns and bad grades. Therefore, changing the school start times to an hour later in middle schools and high schools across the world would provide many benefits to students.

Every morning is a constant struggle of either getting out of bed and getting ready for school or staying asleep and letting the blankets consume you in their warmth. For many teens, the later wins and they are left rushing to make it to school on time. I think that if Nebraska Public High Schools had a later start time such as 9:00am the students would be more likely to be on time to school, they would be more alert in class, and they would have better test scores and grades.
The first and most brave thing Auggie has ever gone through is having surgeries. In all of Auggie’s life, he has had 27 surgeries to correct facial anomalies; this definitely requires much bravery! Another act of bravery was when he decided to go to his new public school, Beecher Prep. This decision was very brave, since Auggie would risk being made fun of for his deformed face. In the past he was always protected by his mother, who homeschooled him, and no one could make fun of him. Going to a public school was definitely a brave step for Auggie. In addition, the middle school Auggie goes to planned to go to camp. Deciding to go on this camping trip was a remarkable decision for Auggie, since he had never slept anywhere without his parents. This was another brave choice for Auggie. Also, when he was at the camp, he and Jack left the group watching a movie when both boys needed to pee and the line for the toilets was too long. Because the lines were so long, they went into the woods to do their business. On their way back, they bumped into another group of people they did not know. As soon as they saw Auggie, they screamed and were calling him names. Then, one of the boys named Eddie shone the flashlight he was holding in Auggie’s face. After that, Jack tried to push the hand holding the flashlight away but the boy just pushed him to the ground. Auggie then said, “We’re smaller than you guys…” Then suddenly,

These experiences have been an enjoyable journey from my elementary to middle school years. However, after several years the end of my middle school adventure is coming to a close. Soon my new journey will start as a freshman. Eight grade will surely be one of my most memorable years. It has been an absolute wonderful one hundred eighty days, and I will miss some of the aspects of eight grade—but certainly not all of it.
Fun, scaring, exciting are the feelings of my first week of school. This is a brand new experience of my life having to leave my friends and teachers in middle school behind. New school, new friends and new teachers are all part of this new school year. This one is different though, it’s the first week of high school.
At the start of my undergraduate education, I was taken aback by what I had ahead of me. Now finally out of high school, a bevy of opportunities suddenly sprang themselves upon me. I was faced with the questions of what classes to take, what to study, what to participate in, how to fend for myself, how to accomplish my goals, and countless others. After struggling with these monumental questions, I realized that, in fact, nothing had changed. I was still the same person I had always been, only now presented with much more opportunity and room to grow. Thus, rather than continuing to flounder in grandiose thought, I began to experience what only a university can offer, by embracing the infinite potential presented to me.
