Seinfeld was a sitcom from NBC that was very popular during the ’90s, and is often referred as “a show about nothing.” It consisted of the life of a fictitious Jerry Seinfeld and his friends in New York City (IMDb). Seinfeld reached a Nielsen rating of 21.7 percent and number one in the United States ranking during its ninth and final season (“Appendix 3: Top-Rated Programs by Season”). It was unique in the way that it portrayed social life during the ‘90s, and this inspired shows such as Friends, Ellen, and Mad About You (Pierson 49). Although ‘Men Behaving Badly’ is not that much older than ‘Friends’ the more recent episodes of Friends are quite different to the final episodes of M.B.B.
“Feminist” has a negative connotation nowadays; we often times here people call feminists “feminazis,” “man haters,” or even just a “bitch.” Many people think that “feminism is anti- male” (Hooks). Awards season is upon us, and I'm seeing the beautiful face of Ms. Jennifer Lawrence plastered on my screen a tad more than usual. And of course, within five minutes we were discussing her naked picture debacle.
At one point Ellen DeGeneres got kicked off of a talk show, but it wasn’t for her performance, it was because she came out as lesbian and the talk show did not accept that. But instead of giving up, Ellen decided to take her career in her own hands by doing that she raised to fame years later. But how did she come from being at rock bottom to an inspiration to so many? It was a journey but in order to inspire, Ellen persuaded the audience to stay true to themselves by using pathos and ethos.
Today the world is overflowing with technology that the population nearly completely depends on, from our cell phones, tablets, or computers, that are used to assist us with daily tasks. What if this technology begun to alter the way we live our lives? As a society, we are reshaping our lives by consistently attempting to appeal to our followers on social media. For instance, we constantly photograph daily events in our lives and then proceed to utilize filters so that they appear as photogenic as possible. It’s almost as if we are trying to create an entire new identity, one who’s life is more interesting than our own. What if, however, there was a place that you could travel to, for an outrageous expense, to be immersed into an alternate form of life. In the television series, Westworld, this place previously described can become a reality. Inside the mock society called Westworld as well, the individuals are known as guests, which as a guest you cannot be harmed. The robots posing as people are known as hosts, and to a guest they are known as your servants. Every other person is an automation, built to look and act exactly as
In 1977 Irene Pepperberg, a recent graduate of Harvard University, did something very bold. At a time when animals still were considered automatons, she set out to find what was on another creature’s mind by talking to it. She brought a one-year-old African gray parrot she named Alex into her lab to teach him to reproduce the sounds of the English language. “I thought if he learned to communicate, I could ask him questions about how he sees the world.”

The videos showed her dancing around and blowing kisses while being dolled up in fancy makeup and revealing clothes. This image of a six-year-old shocked many viewers that had no idea what the pageant world was even about. “New York Times columnist Frank Rich called the repeated airing of the JonBenet beauty pageant clips "borderline kiddie porn” (“Child Beauty Pageants”). Growing up in school you have your friends in 1st, then in Jr. High, and then when you get to high school you might not even know or see your friends from 1st grade anymore. For the few people who’s had a friend from 1st grade till college I think that someone they need to hold on to because if they stuck with you through all them year I know they’re there for the right reason and there not just there for a season.
