Reality Tv Over the past couple of years, reality tv shows have become much more popular. They tend to be on many channels and have a vast variety of interests so everyone can pick something they like. Susan Whitbourne writes a psychological view on viewers in her article “ Who watches reality shows and why?” and Andrea Seigel also explains her own perspective on why people watch these shows in her article “The Life Lessons Hidden in Reality Tv”. In Whitbourne’s article she explains a psychological view on why people enjoy these types of shows. She used Lemi Baruh, a Turkish psychologist, for evidence in her claims. Baruh did many surveys and other strategies to measure the voyeurism in people watching these shows. Whitbourne explains “Lemi She doesn’t use any real facts from an outside reference but she explains why people enjoy these shows in a way that everyone can relate to. She explains “I understand how hard it is to force yourself to be someone different”(Seigel). Everything she says about reality tv can relate back to her and to the majority of the people reading the article to it makes sense and allows people to understand why we enjoy these tv series as much as we do. In Whitbourne’s article she used an ethos appeal because she gave credibility to Baruh’s expierements and had reasoning and back up. Because Baruh is a psychologist we can assume she knows what she is talking about and is taking these surveys in a correct way. The source she uses is credible and reliable. The only source that Seigel uses is herself. She relates is back to her own expierences and her own feelings towards shows. To readers who feel the same way, can relate to her and agree. Baruh was a source used in Whitbourne’s article. Baruh did many expierements on how people feel about reality tv and why they watch them. These facts were interesting and gave good reasons to why these shows were interesting to watch. Both of these articles explained why people enjoy reality tv. They took different approaches and different rhetorical concepts but nonetheless described how we feel when we watch these shows. These articles were very well written and both had examples and real life situations
