“Parenting doesn’t come with a manual,” most parents may say. This saying, although true, has succumb many different approaches parents may take to handling issues like child care. Many parents struggle with taking care of their children and managing a job; this struggle is exacerbated on low-income parents working inflexible jobs, especially when summer rolls around. Because schools are not responsible for children during the summer, parents have to handle supervising their children for longer hours and supporting the family at the same time. Many parents blame this scheduling crisis on their inability to pay for supervision, whether it come in a form of a summer camp, or paid day care. The issue of total adult supervision for young children has brought some arguments to the table: some argue that social laws punish parents for mere cases like Deborah Harrell, who left her nine year old daughter in the park alone, while others support total supervision for young children. Many children may require some medical item that they may need to hold close to incase of an emergency. My young sister, for example, is required to carry an asthma inhaler with her just incase. She is ten years of age and if she were to be left in the park by her lonesome, I would fear that she’d have an asthma attack and risk the chance of not being able to get to her inhaler in time. Of course, children cannot be placed under these circumstances by themselves; in situations like this, parent supervision is undeniably required. Furthermore, children who suffer with allergies are also in risk of having a medical emergency. No parent should leave a child by themselves knowing this gamble can jeopardize their child’s
