This thing many call “idealism” is truly a life changing way of thought. If people weren't idealist everyone would be the same. Everyone would be very similar. The world wouldn't be unique. Thankfully there are people whom we call “idealistic” people. People that inspire us to be unique. To be proud of ourselves. I don't know how idealist people may think they are but here are some true heroes. All have had a major obstacle and they overcame it with their cunning imagination. As well as some make believe. First is a lady girl named Anne Frank. Next is a nice man Named Guido. And not long after is Cervantes. In Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne shows traits of an idealistic personality. Anne once again trying to prove to herself and her family that she is worth something. She feels like she doesn't get the attention she rightfully deserves. She really wants to be able to look to her future and see how her efforts were worthwhile. Did she become what she set out to be. Anne has that at the back of her mind for motivation. Lastly, Anne is trying to look at the bright side of things. She is starting to realize how much help her family has given her. Her whole mindset changes because of the fact that the Germans are losing. Anne wrote, ”I have been given alot, a happy nature, a great deal of cheerfulness and strength. Every day I feel that I’m developing inward. That the liberation is drawing nearer and how beautiful nature is…”(223) Anne is being very optimistic in this quote. She is being more appreciative and joyful about what everyone has done for her. She is writing like that because she is feeling happier and much more confident that the allies are winning and that they will almost be done with hiding. She has been dying to go outside for a while and that is why she is being optimistic. Anne is an idealistic person. She is independent, smart, and optimistic. The main protagonist Cervantes is a man whom cannot escape reality. In my opinion having some pretend in a life is totally alright. However, when it gets out of hand like Cervantes and is alter ego Don Quixote, it becomes a disaster. Cervantes has a reason for his make belief when he said “I have lived nearly fifty years, and I have seen life as it is. Pain, misery, hunger..cruelty beyond belief”(60). Cervantes has had enough of his past and reality. He does not enjoy the life he has. This alternate reality is where he can escape to a land of joy and adventure as his alternate self Don Quixote. He has seen and experienced war and he is sick of it haunting him: he needs a getaway. Next to that all of Cervantes's friends were in those battles. When Cervantes was talking about his past friends he said “These were men who saw life as it is, yet they died despairingly. No glory, no gallant last words… only their eyes filled with confusion, whimpering the question: why?...”(60). Cervantes past comrades never lived the life they wanted to live. They lived in a world with only reality, no imagination to make things interesting. They saw things in reality and never got to enjoy life the way they wanted to. Cervantes went on to say how the men questioned even living. A life with no joy, adventure, and no glory is not a life to live. Cervantes wants a purpose and reason to live. He doesn't
