The leaders were necessary since ancient times. Firstly, they task was to protect their tribe, made sure that his tribe always have the food. Later effective leadership helps to defend their country and at the same time extend national boundaries. In these days leadership makes a business company successful, allows a non-profitmaking organizations to achieve its mission. Thus, every company, organization and, of course, countries have a leaders, who decied wht is the best for them company, employees and etc. Furthermore, „The absence of leadership is equally dramatic in its effects“. (D. Quinn Mills, 2005) Due to, without leadership companies, organizations probably move too slowly with innovations, developing and in the end can lose their way. Moreover, there are a lot of books about organizations in which is emphasized decision making, which means that if your decision making is timely, complete, correct, then things will go fine. But the decision by itself will not change anything. When decision is made, an organization or company meet with the problem such as, how to get things done in timely and also effective way. „Problems of implementation are really issues about how leaders influence behavior, change the course of events, and overcome resistance. “ (D. Quinn Mills, 2005) In other words, leadership is very important when you want to implement decision successfully. To be a leader is difficult, because you have to know almost everything that you can lead, that other people listen to you and feel respect for the leader. We all know that every company has the main leader who is the head of whole company and then company is divided into smaller departments where every department has their leader who from time to time has to report their department work to the head of the company. Also, we know that there are creative leaders in the companies.
So, summing up the data I have looked into my introduction, I find out what creativity is and what leadership is, like different parts. Later, I try to describe what creative leadership is and what is situation in today’s companies with leader, especially with creative leaders. Thus, I came with the question: How we understand creative leadership and why (whether) do we need that kind of leaders in today’s companies?
What is creative leadership and how (important it has in today’s companies) much it is important in today’s companies?
There have been countless books, lectures, and and trainings, and retreats constructed around the idea of cultivating leadership in an individual. However, cultivating individuals’ ability to follow great leadership has received far less attention. Who are these people leading if each person within an organization is being trained to be a leader? The word follower has negative connotations, evoking the images of a weak, uncreative, milquetoast personality. However, Jimmy Collins, in his book, “Creative Followership: In the Shadow of Greatness”, suggests that the ability to be led brings as much creativity, consciousness, and indeed leadership to an organization or team as the leader himself. Great followership is a reflection of great leadership. In this, the follower is just as important as the leader in the relationship. Many great leaders have asserted that a leader with even a modicum of understanding of what drives their subordinates can take their organization to previously undreamt-of heights in creativity and productivity. Collins does not disabuse us of this notion, he does however add that the follower is indispensable agent in this interplay between leader and follower.
Leadership is not a position but an action that is undertaken by an individual. Leadership is not just about giving orders, yet it is the action of serving others. According to Robert Townsend, “A leader is not an administrator who loves to run others, but someone who carries water for his people so that they can get on with their jobs” (2013). A good leader will support his or hers employees because a leader is not judged on their own actions, but they are judge on the success of those that they support. In the modern era, we look at business leaders in the same way that historians view military commanders or kings of the past.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.
Webster 's Dictionary defines leadership as "the power or ability to lead other people," and a manager as “a person who directs a team and is in charge of a business or department” (Webster, n.d.). Although, these are great definitions this paper will take a deeper look into what leaders and managers are, what leadership means as a visionary, what leadership means as a problem-solver, and what leadership means as a team-builder. Moreover, what are the most interesting aspects gained from our text through the first five weeks and how each aspect will be applied to a work environment.
Leadership is something nobody is born with, but it is earned with the desire to create something extraordinary. Being a great leader requires qualities such as approachability, acceptance, perseverance, and a open mind. With none of these qualities, many of the great leaders we know today would be unheard of. In Creativity, Inc. Ed Catmull talks about how the Pixar Animation Studios are designed for animators to communicate and collaborate with each other so they can build on each other's ideas instead of having many incomplete ideas. He wants there to be collaboration and not competition so that together, they can persevere as a company and break boundaries for what they can accomplish. Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Leadership is leading a group of people or company to reach a result or further and the organization. A leader is supposed to be an example of how all employees are expected to act and what they should be striving for. Good leaders also don’t use their position within a company to take advantage of the company and its employees. A good leader is supposed to be able to perform their job with high standards, efficiency, and honor. However, for every good leader, there are bad leaders and the worse the leader the more detrimental he or she becomes to employees and the company they run. Leadership is trait that is extremely important in any society. Leadership is known as the way people attempting to make a difference in a situation. However, I believe that it is better said to be a way of influencing others actions. Leadership is usually connected to a great leader that affected his or her followers in a dynamic way.
