Recommended: To what extent is friar lawrence responsible for the deaths of romeo and juliet

Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare is a very dramatic text, based on two teens falling in love and ends with both characters committing suicide. The friends and family of the two teenagers are to blame for the devastating tragedy. Tybalt (Juliet’s cousin) plays an important role in the text as his aggressive and defensive behaviour contributed to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet (Juliet’s father) is also to blame as he was very selfish and wasn’t supportive of Romeo and Juliet. Lastly, Friar Lawrence played the biggest role in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet as he was sympathetic and impatient with the two of them. Those 3 characters are the guiltiest of all. Tybalt is very proud of his family status and being a Capulet
Also in the beginning of the play a fight breaks out between the Montague and Capulet families and the Prince intervenes and after telling them to drop their weapons he says “If ever you disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.” Although this rule was given Tybalt challenged Romeo to a duel. Romeo kept refusing to fight Tybalt which caused Mercutio to be outraged and draw his own sword. During the duel between Tybalt and Mercutio, Romeo intervenes and tries to stop them both but Tybalt puts his sword under Romeo’s arm and kills Mercutio. Romeo then fights with Tybalt and murders him and is banished from Verona. If Tybalt hadn’t been so aggressive with the whole situation Romeo wouldn’t have been banished, and Juliet wouldn’t have needed to come up with a plan that resulted in both of their deaths. Capulet can also be blamed for the death of Romeo and Juliet as he is selfish and unsupportive. Capulet was trying to force Juliet to marry Paris and he had the final say in her life. After Tybalt’s death Capulet decides to move the wedding up, which shows he is selfish and doesn’t care what Juliet thinks or if she wants to marry him. When Juliet said, she didn’t want to marry Paris her parents (mainly her farther) wanted to disown her. Capulet said to
Friar Lawrence was sympathetic and impatient with the two that it eventually led to their deaths. Friar Lawrence marrying Romeo and Juliet and not telling anyone was inconsiderate, he didn’t care to tell the families; before or after. He believed that if he married Romeo and Juliet the feud between the Capulets and Montagues would end saying: “For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households’ rancour to pure love.” (2:3:91-92) Not telling anyone led to Capulet wanting Juliet to marry Paris sooner which resulted in her asking for the potion. Friar Lawrence is also to blame as he is the one who caused Juliet to appear dead. When Juliet arrived, and threatened to stab herself is she had to marry Paris, Friar Lawrence gave her a potion to make her appear dead for 42 hours then she could leave with Romeo. Friar Lawrence showed that he is impatient when he rushed everything and didn’t wait to see if Romeo received the letter instead he gave her the potion. When she drank the potion and Romeo came to see her, he assumed she was dead and drank a poison and fell dead at her side, after awakening Juliet sees Romeo dead beside her and takes his dagger and says “O happy dagger, this is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die.” And plunges the dagger into her stomach and too falls dead with her beloved Romeo.
