What is obesity?

The definition of obesity differs depending on what one reads. In general, overweight and obesity is shows a weight greater then what is considered normal or healthy. Fat is an important factor in human body as its necessary for storing energy, heat insulation, shock absorption and other functions. But obesity is a continuous condition of having excess amount of fat storing in body. Obesity is best defined by using the body mass index. BMI can be calculated by person’s height and weight. An adult who has a BMI of 25-29.9 is considered over weight, and an adult who has BMI over 30 is considered obese.

Obesity facts

Obesity means having extra amount fat stored in body. For adults 35 and older, having a BMI greater than 30 is considered obese.
Obesity is continuous medical disease and condition of having excess amount of fat in body. Which will lead to diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, gallstones, and other chronic illnesses/
Obesity is difficult to treat and it has high chances of recurrence. More than 95% of those who lose weight regain it back within 5 years.
The treatment of obesity cannot be for short term, it has to be for life-long commitment to diet habits, increased physical activity, and regular exercises.
The goal for the treatment should be to gain a healthy weight or body, and it’s not important to have a fit or excellent weight.
A normal weight loss of 5%-10% and maintaining for a long period of time can bring lots of benefits for body such as; lowering blood pressure and lowering the risks of diabetes and heart disease.
A successful weight loss program can be achieved by help of professional teams of doctor, including dietitians, psychologists, and exercise professionals.

Maintaining your ideal body weight is a balancing between food consumption and calories need by the body for energy. Your what you eat. The kinds and amount of food you eat affect you ability to maintain your ideal weight and to lose weight. Medical science has established that eating proper food can influence health for all age groups. According to many researches upon obesity and diet, current dietary guidelines state the following:
Eat a variety of foods
Balance the food you eat with physical activity-maintain or improve your weight.
Choose a diet with plenty of grain products, vegetables, and fruits.
Choose a diet low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.
Choose a diet moderate in sugar.
Choose a diet moderate in salt and sodium,
If you deink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation.
