I never knew anyone that was suicidal, has tried committing suicide, or went through with it. I would always hear stories, told by teachers, saying how serious it all is and how many people go through depression every day without anyone noticing. I did not pay much attention to what they would say until one day I got a text from my best friend asking, “Does anyone love me?”
I replied, shakily, with, “Yes of course I do, and so do your friends and family.” But what I did not realize is that when a person is suicidal or depressed they don 't believe any of that because they are so stuck on believing that they are alone.

The reason for that is that high schoolers don 't get enough education on what suicide is and how many people go through it so when they get out of highschool they feel alone and uneducated on this topic. People hide their emotions all the time and “People who are suicidal are usually in the grips of a serious and untreated (or undertreated) depressive episode. Many people can hide such emotional pain very well, and pretend to be okay. But underneath, they may be in extreme agony and in need of help” (Grohol). Students don’t know the signs of suicide so they are unaware of how to determine the different signs of it in a person. This is why we need professionals to teach students the signs of depression and suicide so we can get people help before it 's too late. This is a huge concern of our society and it cannot be eliminated without some extra help. It is not just a murder of oneself, but it is instead a mental disease that a person had because they felt alone and thought the only answer for them was to end their life. Most people actually feel regret as they are committing suicide but at that point it is too late.Suicide not only affects the one who has passed, but instead all the people that knew them as well. This can only happen if people open their eyes to the real problem. Students need proper education and knowledge on the topic. This topic should be addressed as a child is in his or her teen years and matured enough to know and understand the logic of suicide. Being talked to about suicide and the effects of it, in a school setting, with people you know and trust, will help the suicide numbers decrease. Kids have been in a school environment for as long as they can remember, they know the school, they know the routine and it is a safe and comfortable environment for them. Whereas a new building, with new faces that you haven 't seen before, may be a little intimidating and scary for some people. Which is why if an issue is going on, any normal human would rather go to a place they are comfortable with and talk to people they are at ease with, then go to a brand new building. This is why serious topics, such as suicide, should be talked about in a comfortable setting, such as their school. “According to the National Association of School Psychologists, the reality is that every five hours, a child or adolescent in the United States dies by suicide. This is an issue that must be addressed in the place that young people spend most of their time, at school” (Genevieve).
