ON BELIEFS
In order to avoid the simple Christian answers to the issues that are going to be discussed, I am going to be extremely candid. The insight that will provided will not be straight forward, but rather be a glimpse of the thoughts of someone who struggles find common ground with the beliefs that he holds. The two different beliefs are the virtue of capitalism and Christianity. Some believe that they are in direct opposition to each other, and I would completely disagree with that. However, the supposed conflicts take place in the realm of social issues. I look forward to exploring some of these issues. ON SEX TRAFFICKING The first issue that I choose to explore is sex trafficking. I am going to split them into three groups: those

This is an area in which I have first hand experience. Among the people who come to the Hope Food Pantry that I volunteer at, many of them would fall under this category. I volunteer here because I think that it is stated very explicitly in the Bible that we are to care for the poor. I will be honest, the main reason that I am volunteering here to learn and observe. This is the group of people that I want to continually help going forward in my life.
Many people believe that capitalism is the reason that these people cannot afford their own food. Yet, I still have yet to see people trying to flee a capitalistic society to try to center a socialist one. This is because capitalism actually breeds kindness. I have noticed that many of these people do not come all the time which suggests that some only come when they absolutely need it. However, I have also noticed that although the pantry provides food and prayer, which are very powerful, they do not look forward to try to get these people out of

I do not believe that is love, that is selfish “love”. It says “look at me and how good of a Christian I am.” True love involves justice. When people screw up, they have to face some of the repercussions. Afterward, our arms are wide open showing God’s love. Capitalism is not greed. Rather, it gives people the opportunity to experience their full potential. (Eph 1:18 & Prov. 31:9) This is biblical and how I seek to serve God through Christian
Richard’s purpose is to remind Christians about the importance of loving neighbor and to teach how Christians can help the poor with their hearts and minds. He relates an important commandment in the Bible, “Love your neighbor,” with the economics by using the concept of “consequence of action.” He promotes the Christians to live a life which God is expecting for them to live by learning about the economics. He wants the Christians to stop justifying ourselves that we love each other when we are not, and he wants us to truly understand God’s intention of putting “love your neighbor” as one of the important commandments. As we study economics, it is important to understand that we should not focus on worldly issues and that we should not forget about God’s commandments. Moreover, this article teaches the Christians that we don’t need to be afraid to study economics because we can use the economics to obey God’s
The Bible clearly explains the role of government in society and the framers of our nation built America on Biblical principles. Since economics is the science that deals with production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, Christian economics entails how men use God-given resources, ideas, and energy to meet their human needs and to glorify the Lord. Christianity produces internal liberty in man, which is the foundation for a Christian economy. The internal change of heart that Christ brings produces Christian character and self-government which is necessary for an economy to be prosperous. Christian character and self-government produce people who do not steal, who have a strong work ethic, and who save and invest to
In his book The protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism, Max Weber analyzes the influence of the Protestantism guide line on capitalism spirit. Since all human work is not parfait, Max Weber’s book contain strength and weakness.
Christian faith and Ethos is the class I am taking this term. The professor 's name is Reverend Leroy Leach Jr. The class is about God, the creation, and how to read the Holy Bible.
Every religion embodies a plethora of recognized rituals that are significant to its teachings. Customs exclusive to each religion can include acts such as: attending a weekly mass, praying five times a day at specified hours, celebrating the transition from childhood to manhood, along with endless others. The similarity shared amongst all religious rituals is that the follower of faith must believe whole-heartedly in what he/she is doing or saying. Dhikr, or the remembrance of God, is a ritual based in Islam that does not receive the attention it deserves from mainstream Muslims, and is highly under appreciated for its value (Robson 238). Its myriad versions allow it to be very personal, whereas other rituals are more structured, which is
...ny critics over the years, and we have seen many arguments for and against the use of a free market system. However, I believe along with the authors that without capitalism, America could not be the country it is today. Even though American society has faced many moral issues, it is not the fault of the economic system, rather the fault of the morally inept who take advantage of the system and those participating in it. The authors also develop their argument by bringing up issues that I was not able to fit into this paper such as government intrusion in the free market system, as well as corporate injustice. However, again as I stated before, these are injustices resulting from individuals, not from the core foundation of the system. Capitalism aligns closely with the economic principles laid out in the bible, and because of that it is a morally superior system.
World Religion is an important course of study, because people have the opportunity to learn from an insider, as well as outsider, concerning different beliefs, practices, deities, and perspectives of other religions. The Bible records the deities and religion practices in the Old Testaments, which concerned the Egyptians, Canaanites, Philistines, and Babylonians. The New Testaments, on the other hand, populated with “many gods and lords.” Paul’s letter written to the Corinthians express the understanding of knowing that the idols did not represent a real God. Paul writes, “For although there may be so-called gods in the heaven or on earth- as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”-yet “for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and from whom we exist and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through who are all things and through who we exist” (1 Cor. 8:5-6, EVS). In other words, the sovereignty of God is what rules the heavens and the earth concerning the humanity of different religions.
When it comes to religious beliefs, people have opinions that can be very conservative, to people who have extremist opinions. It is nearly impossible to say whose opinions are correct, but one thing that can be found in their opinions is a middle ground. From religion to religion, people tend to have some degree of similarities in their beliefs or practices. I saw something parallel to this during my interviews. I interviewed four very different people, from different generations, and different religions, yet I found similarities within many of their answers.
Do Poor People Have it Better? People are burdened by the faces of poverty as they cruise along the streets of their hometown. Cardboard signs with messages of hope are brought to the attention of those well off, urging them to sympathize and reach into their pockets for spare change. Individuals that have fallen below the poverty line have been stripped of their humanity, unacknowledged and invisible to many. Have the poor been placed in circumstances in which they cannot escape their social rank, or have they simply lost motivation in participating in the capitalist United States?
Islam is often viewed as a religious tradition which originates from the seventh century. An important part of Islam is based on the prophet Muhammad, and the great revelations in which he received from God, according to the Quran. However, it is most important to realize that Muslims do not view Islam as a new religion. Muslims believe that Allah is the same God who revealed himself to Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Therefore, Jews, Christians, and Muslims are all followers of the same living God. Muslims believe that the Quran is the final and complete revelation of God to all people. It is not easy for some people to accept the fact that God exists when there have been so many throughout history. You cannot also say if someone’s religion is right or wrong or the God they believe in is a “Supreme” god. Why Islam and not Christianity? Why Hinduism and not Judaism? Every one of them different and they vary from one another; they have different rules and are all passionate about their belief. But the fact still remains that there is one who is above all and he is God. God is Omnipresent, omnipotent, and Benevolent.
All over the world, many people practice a religion of their choice. With any religion people participate in many rituals that show their commitment to their religion. Amongst the five major religions of the world, which are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, they are all significant to what people believe in. Each of them include rituals, places of worship, a God or Gods, and so much more. The five major religions of the world each have key characteristics that highlight both their similarities and differences.
Jesus served as example for all of humanity. His life work was to solve the fundamental problem of humanities sin and to provide eternal life with the Father. Jesus Christ demonstrated the way humans should live. He modeled behavior to the poor, the sick, the imprisoned, women, tax collector, to His friends. He came to set the example of the way to live for Christians. Basically, Jesus life was an outline of how to live your own life. Jesus confirmed that you should love your neighbor as yourself. That you should love your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. This was demonstrated on a daily bases. Jesus verified that although humans are prone to sin, one can make a choice to not sin. When tempted by Satan, Jesus refrained from sin and turned to God the Father for strength to turn away from the temptation. Jesus was the teacher of complete, true knowledge.
My definition of religion has mostly stayed the same, but my perception of it has changed. At the beginning of the class, I assumed religion was something you believed based on your moral principles. I now believe that those moral principles are based on the religion that you believe in. Your religion changes your perception of the world and how to go about in it. Your religion tells you what is right and wrong in the world and answers all of the big questions one asks. Religion according to our book is, “A pattern of beliefs and practices that expresses and enacts what a community regards as sacred and/or ultimate about life” (Van Voorst 6). That definition was one thing that really got me thinking about my own personal idea of what religion
Growing up I was raised in a religious household, so, of course, I’m a big believer in God and my faith. To me, God is the creator of all and I believe Judgment Day is going to come very soon. The definition of faith is the belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion. My faith and the reason for my faith goes hand in hand because it makes me know the truth and opens my eyes to this world. Also, I get clarity of why I’m in this world which is to make it a better place. But seeing the world as faith with reason or reason with faith has a few challenges and can make things a little bit difficult. Same goes for science and religion which butt heads a lot. Some may feel that the Big Bang Theory created
According to Hutchison (2015), “religion is symbolic patterns that consists of values, beliefs, behaviors and experiences” (p. 184). I personal conceptualize spirituality as a vital role in my life that helps me during a time of sickness, forgiveness, and needed guidance. Spirituality helps guide me throughout life during the difficult times I have encountered. Spirituality impacts my life in positive ways that influence and regulate my behavior and health. Health is very important to me; I believe the spirit can heal a person from their sickness. It seems that the spirit heals me every time I pray to be healed from sickness. The spirit gives me strength at a time of weakness. When I feel at my lowest point in life I call on the spirit to pick
