The Lesson before dying possessed many dynamic characters throughout the plot of the story, But the most profound character would be Grant Wiggins, Grant was born and raised in Louisiana, son of a cane- cutter and laborer of the Louisiana Plantation; escaping his family origins, Grant sought a more pristine environment for himself through education, Even with a college education, Grant still was treated inferior to white individuals in his community, Grant also displayed great signs of depression and anger towards himself and others, However gradually throughout the novel, Grant changed into a high pillar of his community through visitations with Jefferson, aunt Tante Lou and Reverend Ambrose, He exchanges his negative habits for a positive …show more content…

Aunt Tante Lou shows her love in a very unique way towards Grant, their single bond towards each other shows how much love and hope she has for Grant even at his lowest points. Aunt Tante Lou is a woman of great faith as you see in the novel, Aunt Tante Lou displays real compassion towards grant in here lectures of God. Even though Grant does not possess a strong faith like Aunt Tante Lou in the beginning of the novel. Reverend Ambrose is a man of great faith and devotion to his people including Grant. As Grant is grading papers one day is his room Aunt Tante Lou announced that Reverend Ambrose Wishes to speak to him. As Grant allows Reverend to enter, Reverend begins debating the role of education. Grant states, that the purpose of teaching is for money and to refrain from Poverty. Reverend Ambrose responds with saying, that education is an opportunity to gain knowledge, and that with knowledge you can be able to help others in need. Grants Short tempered brings the conversation to a screeching halt stating "I went to college, and I have a college degree." Reverend replies with "But what did you learn" Reverend sees that Grant is an educated man, but he also sees how he use his gift. Grant Doesn 't use his gifts to enrich and uplift until the end where you see how he changes his ways and focuses more on others than himself.
