“There were no smiles. There were no tears either. Just the camaraderie of fellow-sufferers. Everybody wanted to tell his neighbor how much he had lost. Nobody wanted to listen. It was too repetitious a tale” (The New York Times, World History Book). The stock market crash was only one of many contributions leading up to the Great Depression. There were many economic and societal conditions that worsened throughout this time. Luckily there have been documentaries on the life that was lived by the people and how they got through it, just like the character in the movie Cinderella Man, Jim Braddock. Millions of Americans and even people across the globe were hit and somewhat effected by this tragic period in history.

There wasn’t just a single action or event that sparked the stock market crash. It was a series of bad judgements and choices made by the consumers, over looked by expenses and the era they had just experienced full of wealth and prosperity. Nobody saw this coming, or could even suspect this of happening. Consumers continuously invested in the stock market, leading to over speculation, poor government policies and and all around an unstable economy. Large investors catching wind of a bad outlook and future in the stock market, pulled their money out of the market and went straight to the banks. Because of the crash and its aftermath which revealed serious flaws in American economy, it led up to the Great Depression. The crash caused over 5,000 banks to close and for the many who invested their money only in banks, it was devastating crisis. Farmers started facing tough times when unemployment rates rose. Nobody had the money to pay for the food leaving farm prices dirt cheap, which meant lower income...

... The Depression was the most severe downturn in economic history. It left people homeless, unemployed, separated from loved ones and even dead. Throughout the Depression, Americans faced the hardest point in their lives. Those who were able to push through and accomplish their American dream, were the ones who made it out. The dream was different for everyone. For some it may have been the dream to survive through it all. Others it could have been scrounging around and finding whatever else they could find to hold their family together. And for one, it was to come through as the hero his family and town saw even during this crisis. He had to go through many failures, pain, love, and success in order for him to experience and survive this downfall known as the Great Depression. This life and hardship in the end turned out to be a great Cinderella Story.
