The Starry Night, one of Vincent van Gogh famous paintings that I like a lot about. Though this is a famous piece of art, it is still one of my favorite pieces myself. I think of it being awesome with how he captures the starts with the vortex kind of motion along with the moon for that manner. I like how it is all curving lines and how you kind of make it look like the sky is kind of moving on its own. This mostly is because of the curving lines. I love how he has the spire that still has curving lines going up through it and how it is the darkest object in the whole painting. But the problem is that now a days we don’t exactly get to enjoy the beauty of the night sky. Mostly because of us living in a city and it isn’t dark enough in order to see. Plus most of us just don’t look up in general. The painting makes the night sky a lot more beautiful then what it is in the real life. Nature is a hard thing to capture when drawing it or when painting it like this, but he did it. Though it is kind of abstract art a tad, it is still pretty good. The painting makes me calm and steady with it being kind of serene. It makes me want to kind of go outside a bit and check out the night sky myself. It fascinates me with what I have been missing with how the night sky could be. The reason I think this because of its smoothness and how it just flows from one side to the next. It really does make me feel calm and with the spire just flowing up as well with it. With the hills also kind of flowing from the bottom of them to the top of them. Plus I see plains to the left and how they look like they are moving towards the right of the painting. Though I find it very interesting that I see a church in the middle of the whole painting. I see that there is a lot of space in the middle where the swirl is in the middle. It is good because it gives us more of a feel of how it is the vast sky with all the stars in
Wayne, transforms this painting into a three dimensional abstract piece of art. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. At the left-bottom corner of the painting, the viewer is presented with a rugged-orangish cliff and on top of it, two parallel dark green trees extending towards the sky. This section of the painting is mostly shadowed in darkness since the cliff is high, and the light is emanating from the background. A waterfall, seen originating from the far distant mountains, makes its way down into a patch of lime-green pasture, then fuses into a white lake, and finally becomes anew, a chaotic waterfall(rocks interfere its smooth passage), separating the latter cliff with a more distant cliff in the center. At the immediate bottom-center of the foreground appears a flat land which runs from the center and slowly ascends into a cliff as it travels to the right. Green bushes, rough orange rocks, and pine trees are scattered throughout this piece of land. Since this section of the painting is at a lower level as opposed to the left cliff, the light is more evidently being exposed around the edges of the land, rocks, and trees. Although the atmosphere of the landscape is a chilly one, highlights of a warm light make this scene seem to take place around the time of spring.
What I see in this piece is peacefulness. Stokes of the paintbrush are perfect to make it look whole. With the sun shinning down making the colors pop out even more. Somehow I related to this painting at the moment. Looking back in the distance in the sky you see that there was a turbulent time. Saturday was such an awful morning. When backing up you see the bottom of the picture. The lush lively flowers show the bright side happy ending. This was my reminder that there is a calm after the storm just like in the picture.
There is a lot of repetition of the vertical lines of the forest in the background of the painting, these vertical lines draw the eye up into the clouds and the sky. These repeated vertical lines contrast harshly with a horizontal line that divides the canvas almost exactly in half. Feeling lost when one doesn’t even know them self or when one doesn’t know what to stand for or believe in anymore is exactly how Elie Wiesel felt in his book “Night”. During the time of the Holocaust, Elie was one of the victims taken into a concentration camp and forced to work to brutal extents. As a kid, Elie was determined to learn and study his religion, but that changed, along with his priorities. Devastating events changed Elie’s idea on religion, battling conflicts between himself and those around him, even the test that God seemed to implicate on Elie. To his own disbelief, Elie had given up on God and had lost his faith due to his immense struggle throughout the year he spent in the camp, carrying the burden that he does not care about the one he had always looked up too and been there for him, which is God.

However in her interpretative poem she found a perspective of the painting that connected with her. As she used every stroke of darkness painted into the canvas an opportunity to have it symbolize this darkness and evil that resides in the world. It told her story and her experience of a starry night. Similarly Van Gogh had used every stroke of light painted into the canvas to be a symbol of beauty, and a symbol of his fascination of the night sky and its illuminating lights. He uses swift movements of his brush to depict a sky that seem to be able to sweep the mind away from the frustrations of this world in to the dreamy night light. I was born with an inherent fascination for all things celestial. Ever since I was young, I have been staring at the night sky trying to find constellations, or using my juvenile imagination to create my own. My efforts to find, view, and mentally catalogue everything the heavenly bodies have to offer has led me to employ some over-the-top measures, but the most extreme of them all might be the night I stayed awake through the wee hours of the morning to catch a glimpse of a meteor shower. Over the course of an entire year, the memory of this stupefying event is still as lucent and vivid as it was that very night so long ago.

I am comparing my favorite painting Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh to The View of Toledo by El Greco. Both paintings are beautiful landscapes featuring the night sky. ... all to itself. The care and detail that went into the hills that are closer to the stable is breathtaking. It almost has a sense of life. The way the lights and the shadows are hitting the grass gives it life. The artist again shows his mastery of atmospheric perspective by slowly fading the hills that are meant to be further from the viewer to blue. He does so until all the viewer sees all the way in the back of the painting are blue suggestions of hills.
In Midnight in Paris, you are able to see some buildings that look lifelike. This artwork is a realistic one that needs to depict a concept from the live action film. However, the starry night is abstract. You are able to decipher what everything is in the painting. However seeing the swirls in the painting (particularly in the sky in the hills), makes you see that it is not
