Many kids in America today grow up playing many different sports. Two of America’s best sports are football and baseball. These two sports are both fun and romantic, in their own little way, making them both a great American pastime. Some have come to wonder which sport has the title of being America’s pastime. For many years baseball has dominated as America’s past time but times have changed, and people are starting to think that football should own the title of being America’s pastime.

A baseball field is in the shape of a diamond, where as a football field is in the shape of a gigantic rectangle. A football field is 100 yards long and 52 yards wide. Baseball fields vary in size, from each level to each different ball team. Located on a baseball field are four bases, a pitcher’s mound, dirt infield, dugouts, and an outfield wall. In football, there is chalk lines every five yards for one hundred yards. Hash and yard number marks, down and distance indicators. Also on a football field the entire field consist of turf or grass containing no dirt. On football fields there are no dugouts for the players to stand in. Instead, the players stand on the sidelines and sit down on bleachers. Both field however have referees on the field during the games, foul or out of bound lines, and both can have fields consisting of turf. Football and baseball are both large scale events in American sports today. This results in a high number of fan attendance at each of the sports games. In order to keep up with the number of fans, baseball and football organizations build humongous, expensive, and beautiful stadiums. Both football and baseball stadiums are built to resemble the Greek coliseums. The massive stadiums are designed this way in order to hold a large number of fans. In football, there are eleven players on the field for the offensive side, and eleven players on the defensive side. Also in football, many players only play offense or defense. This makes for bigger rosters in football, as you have about twenty players for offense and twenty players for defense. On the other hand, the number of players that can be on the baseball field at one time is thirteen. This would result in players at each defensive position, along with their being a runner on every base, and a batter at the plate ready to hit. Baseball teams have nine players on the field playing defense; these same players play offense as well. Baseball rosters are a lot smaller compared to football rosters. A baseball team usually consist of twenty players total in the dugout and about ten pitchers in the bullpen. Although there are ten pitchers in the bullpen, only about three to four of them will play in one particular game. In football there is only high school, college, arena, Canadian, and the National Football League. With the NFL being the highest level. Baseball consist of high school, college, and Major League Baseball. In Major League Baseball, there are three different levels of minor league. The lowest level is single A, then double A, and triple A. The highest level would be the major leagues. Each baseball organization has one team per level,
