Socialism is a social and economic system where the means of productions are shared indivisibly throughout the community or enterprise rather than in the names of a few individuals. Or more simply put Socialists believe that the Chief Executives of a corporation are not the ones who deserve the big pay check. They believe that the working men and women deserve more money because they are they ones out in the field doing the work. The main goal of socialism is to more evenly distribute the wealth. They care more about having more people living comfortably than just a few individuals getting wealthy. In an article titled Socialism Is Not Harmful they instead believe that democracy and socialism complement one another and that the corporation and the society should meet the needs of all people (2). The Democratic Socialist do not believe that the government should own every business, but that businesses should be ran by the employees who work for them (2). Their main goal is to get wealth into as many peoples hands as possible. What they despise is not the very rich, instead what they are actively speaking against is the gap between the very rich and the rest of the working class. In the article Socialism Is Not Harmful they mention that there are no models of a democratic socialist nation because it is old and the globalization of capitalism makes maintaining this kind of government difficult due to the cheap labor companies can use through outsourcing. This keeps socialism at bay because bringing those jobs back to the states would make everything cost much more than it does now. After reading Socialism Coincides with American Values, I realized the overwhelming number of socialist ideologies that exist within the current framework of our government. There are extensive programs that massive numbers of people rely on for their welfare. As Purdy suggested in his article, some of the Presidents that most would attribute to be our greatest based their platform and administration on what today’s society would call socialism. The minority of the economy during the early 1900’s was the wealthy Capitalist class while the majority of America’s population was the poor working class (Bakthawar 2). Socialism is a political movement with the goal of changing the Capitalist economy, so that it no longer exists. Socialism in America began in Chicago IL, June 15-21, 1897. This ideology was founded at a joint convention of the new combined American Railway Union. This was due to the two Railway Industries combining with each other, Eugene V. Debs and the Brotherhood of the Cooperative Commonwealth (Davenport). This caused a monopoly for the Railway Industry, which is how a Socialistic government does. The government takes over industries, with no competition the government controls prices and regulations. This is like Lee Chong’s store, he was the monopoly of the town stores in the Cannery Row. Lee Chong controlled prices of his merchandise that he sold in town. It did not matter if something was more expensive then it should be it was the only store in the town with produce, merchandise, and goods.

It should improve the country’s infrastructure and concentrate on improving skills and knowledge - education rather than welfare should be the priority. In conclusion, I would agree that there has been a lot of disagreement within socialism, on whether it should be achieved through revolution or should gradually evolve through democracy, and also on how extreme or how moderate socialism should be.
Socialism was designed to strengthen the gains of the social revolution. By the ideals of Orthodox Marxism, it claims that a socialist revolution in a country must by followed by similar revolutions in the advanced industrial countries to survive.
That the president and his administration have taken away the car companies and the banks as well as other institutions and the healthcare system then that is socialism. Most of the opponents of the healthcare policy reforms that have happened in the recent years are basing their reasons on the myths that are being spread by the minority of the society members who can finance their health needs out of hands.
Equal work, equal wages, equal food, equal opportunities, equal power. On the outside, a society where every one of its citizens was completely equal sounds and appears like a good thing, even a great thing. No one had too much power, everyone seemed to be happy, and most importantly everyone worked to better the community instead of themselves. This is what Socialism was portrayed as: a system in which everyone worked together to benefit the state. Contradicting this fabricated image, life under Socialism did not succeed in equality for men and women, and it caused people to do whatever necessary in order to gain some sense of individualism. When Adolf Hitler was put in as Chancellor in 1933, he started to begin the program of the NSDAP, the National Socialist German Labor Party. The highest priorities were to put all men back to work and to increase the birthrate. Both were accomplished by re-instituting the traditional roles of men and women. Within the next 10 years, most women were won over to National Socialism, content to do their part in the great national resurgence.

By relinquishing private ownership the theory is that the state will oversee the distribution of wealth in a fair and equal manner. One of the shortcomings of this idea is it basiclly rules out the ideas of natural selection being necessary to the overall expansion and development of mankind. The sum of one’s total assets excluding the liabilities equates the person’s wealth also known as the net worth. Investments, residents, cash, real estates and everything owned by an individual are their assets.In reality, the United States is among the richest countries in the world, though a few people creating a major gap between the richest, the middle class and the poor control most of its wealth.
