(Witches have been seen in many stories to bring a supernatural element to the plot. Witches have been known to weave the fabric of human life and then cut the threads to end them. In the play Macbeth, Shakespeare has used the witches to toy with Macbeth’s life with the use of prophecies. ) (The equivocation of the prophecies that was told to Macbeth was a significant role to Macbeth’s destruction.) (Three ways the witches’ tricked Macbeth was showing him an armed head telling him to fear Macduff, a bloody child stating that none born of a woman shall hurt Macbeth, and a crowned child with a tree in its hand saying he will not be defeated until Birnam wood comes to his castle on Dunsinane hill. )
(The first apparition given to Macbeth that foreshadows his destruction is told by “an armed Head” (Shakespeare 4.1.67). It warns him, “Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! beware Macduff”; this simple sentence does not seem to pose a threat to Macbeth as it warns him of Macduff but this has a double meaning (Shakespeare 4.1.71).)(After the witches have vanished, Lennox came to report that “Macduff is fled to England”; Macduff goes to England to persuade Malcolm to come back and battle against the tyrant (Shakespeare 4.1.142). This proves that the first apparition was true about the danger of Macduff and Macbeth sees this threat. The witches told him to fear Macduff which he already knows as much. The first prophecy’s purpose is to make Macbeth feel assured that the Prophecies are reliable and after he sees that it is he proceeds to ask more. What he does not pay attention to is the armed head which have spoken the warning. (Equivocation indefinitely had a part in Macbeth’s downfall. The ‘fear Macduff’ prophecy tricks Macbeth by telling him something he already knows so he thinks the prophecies are reliable. The prophecy that states no man of woman born shall hurt Macbeth tricks him by making him believe he is immortal. The last prophecy tricks him by making him think he will never be vanquished until great Birnam woods moves to Dunsinane hill.)(The equivocation of the prophecies that was told to Macbeth was a significant role to Macbeth’s destruction.)(Ambiguity has always made a disastrous end product, whether it is instructions to a project or a strategic error in war, all have ended with displeasing aftermaths.)
