Robert Frost’s “Fire and Ice”
Robert lee frost is one of the most influential poets of our time. He became a worldwide acclaimed poet that earned and almost legend like status. His works are read multiple times, but aren 't really read into and absorbed the way they should be. His sells were constantly exceeded record sales he was loved by critics and people alike. He became the quintessential new English poet. Robert frost was born on the 26 of March in San Francisco, California where he spent his first 11 years of his life (Greiner). The speaker associates fire with desire and ice with hate. From what the speaker has told us we associate fire and ice with human behavior and emotion. The poem 's tone is that of someone that is emotionless, understated, and declarative for example in the way he says that “ice would suffice” instead of say that will suffice.
The poem 's message or theme is serious. It revolves around hate and desire and how the world is going to end around these two. The poem focuses on the deadly potential of human desires and hatred. It was the time where Europe and then basically every other country was launched into World War 1. There were many scandals and changes during the time “fire and ice” was published many social and governmental issues of corruption and the change from older tradition’s to more modern concepts. This was visible in not only frost works but in other arts. Another influence that people think contributed to the mystic of frost writing was religion. Frosts mother joined the swedenborgian church and even had him baptized in it. But as frost grew older he left the church. A lot of people believe that this may have influenced the blend of reason and spiritualism in all of his works.
