Drake is a multiplatinum Grammy award winning hip hop rap artist. He is also one of the first hip hop rap artist whose lyrical context does not fit the norms of the hip hop genre. Not only does his lyrics break the hip hop norms, but he is also the only hip hop rap artist that also sings on every single one of his albums. Drake is not only one of hip hop’s biggest icons, but he is also the first true hip hop non-conformist. A true non-conformist is someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and refuses to conform to the established expectations, and that is exactly what Drake has done. Drake’s lyrical content normally consist of his emotions and he is willing to show his audience how vulnerable he can be. Also Drake does not only rap, but he sings just as much. This is something that is rarely ever done in the hip hop community. Many people have even gone as far to say that Drake is actually not a hip hop rapper but instead an R&B singer. Most hip hop rap artist have a gangster persona and can seem extremely intimidating. To even be accepted as a rapper one must have come from a certain background and must be seen as a gangster. However Drake is the complete opposite and even though he has been ridiculed for being more in touch with his feelings he has stood his ground.
