During the great depression losing your money was the easy part, yet living without the easy choices and luxuries it gave was the true hardship. The book “Of mice and men” by John Steinbeck is about the travels of two working men going job to job. While going through this process having to find and keep jobs they make certain choice. Most of the characters in this book come across a limited amount of choices because of the time period, hoping their choices will be the right ones for survival.
Curley’s wife has everything she needs to live, a house, water and food. However Curley’s wife is still unhappy with her relationship. Spending her whole day roaming the farm, dodging Curley and attempting to flirt with the other working men. Why is she not grateful for everything that she is being provided with? It was her environment; she could not stand all of Curley’s violence and threats. “Sure I gotta husban’. You all seen him. Swell guy ain’t he. Spends all his time sayin’ what he gonna do to the guys he don’t like and he don’t like nobody. Think I’m going to stay in a two-by-four house and listen to how with his left twick, and then bring in the right cross? ‘One-two’ he says. ‘Jus’ the ol’ one-two an he’ll go down. `”. Curley’s wife obviously does not have any affection towards Curley or his violence. Aside from his violence, Curley was brutal controlling of her actions, checking her every move and making sure she stays in the house. She does not seem enlightened about being in a relationship with Curley, though still deals with Curley because during this time period you do not have a lot of options to choose from. For Curley’s wife she has it made for a small price to pay compared to the challenges others are obligated overcome. No...

...ng the fact he is now alone, the only decency was knowing Lennie went out thinking with happy thoughts. George had limited choices, although George chose the best one possible for himself and for Lennie on his behalf.
Whether the choices people made in the great depression were to keep you alive or full of food, you did not have a wide variety of choices. Making the correct decision had to have, been difficult. Some decisions may have caused others or themselves harm unintentionally. Personally looking back on that one tough decision, they would be glad they did. Who knew what could have gone wrong if they took the chose wrong. It may have hurt for the time being, after all it was improbable people in society at that time period had that many choices to begin with.
