Summary: The novel Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, by James Patterson follows a troublemaker named Rafe Kachadorian. When he gets to school although for him it’s more like prison and so far he’s not very fond of his new school. Rafe only has one friend, Leo but his full name is Leonardo the Silent. The only person Leo speaks to is Rafe because Leo is imjainary. Rafe’s first day of school is a difficult day a bully named Miller who chose for his victim of the year. However, it’s there was some good when he found a cute a girl who's name is Jeanne. On in the second day of school, they make the students come for an assembly to talk to the students about new and old rules. He called the cops but his mom didn't press any charges even though she went the hospital. Although she did break up with Bear Rafe and Georgina were both glad of the decision that her mom makes but the didn't say it. So then he has to have meeting with his mom and the principal he said that he was expelled from his school for the rest of the school year, although his English teacher was impressed by his art skills that she suggested an art school. His mom and Rafe took the suggestion and for the first time he’s excited for school. Character Description: Leo also known as Leonardo the Silent is Rafe’s best and only friend even though he’s imaginary he feels real to Rafe. Rafe does not like school, and living at home is not the best. It's not great with Bear around since all he does is sleep and is a nuisance in his and his sister’s life. Despite all of his bad luck there was still a silver lining. Rafe got kicked out school where he wasn't learning or making any friends, and even got bullied by Miller. Most people would be upset that they were expelled from school, but Rafe sees this as an opportunity for change. One of his teacher’s thinks that Rafe would be better suited for an art school named Airbrook, “‘Airbrook could be a perfect environment for Rafe…. The school is a combination of visual arts and academics”’ (267). Rafe’s Mom is also able to find a silver lining when she realizes that Bear, who is her abusive boyfriend, is not a good person to be living with and is not the best influence in her life. She couldn't really see it because she works all the time she had to work harder because Bear didn't do anything so it was just an extra mouth to feed “‘Bear is not going to be living with us anymore, and hopefully that means I can afford to stop working double shifts at the diner
