Information This book, Lord of the flies, was published by William Gerald Golding who was born in 1911. When he was 44 in 1954, Lord of the flies was published and admitted for great book. According to ‘the novel prize.org’, “The Nobel Prize in Literature 1983 was awarded to William Golding. Also, this book was William’s first full-length novel. First, this book was ignored but today it become popular both adults and students. According to Amazon, “Lord of the Flies remains as provocative today as when it was first published in 1954, igniting passionate debate with its startling, brutal portrait of human nature. Though critically acclaimed, it was largely ignored upon its initial publication. Yet soon it became a cult favorite among both students and literary critics who compared it to J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye in its influence on modern thought and literature.” Background Information ( a few sentences) There were many wars, and many politic problems happened completely. William Gerald Golding entered for army so he was participated at the war. After he went to the war, he wanted to express about adults’ tragic value. Therefore, the book, Lord of the flies was made by him based on his mind. Main Characters (2 paragraphs) Ralph is act like a leader in this book, but he has no strong power to control other children. Piggy is familiar with Ralph from first to the end. He has bad eye-sight, so he wears glasses. He is brilliant and acts like an adult. Simon has a big role to wake up important thing to other child. Ralph has a warm mind to think other children. In the contrast, Jack is always related to the color: black. He is likely to get power. Ralph and other children’s life will return. He is already likely to be rescued but in his eyes, there are many meaningful sad things. The subject person is Ralph. One man who is going to recue Ralph is looking and saying. He describes Ralph. He can imagine and see Ralph’s past. Also, he can read his painful mind. In this poem, I want to express about Ralph who was tired of bear burden for him and his friends. I wanted to saying without Ralph’s speaking but his appearance. ‘Powerless but shining eyes’ part of this poem, means both Ralph’s bitter trial’s as the leader and his last hope for saving his life.
