Karl Marx commonly known as the father of communism has been major part of history worldwide and which is why he is taught in many history classes. Karl Marx is known as a philosopher, he spent his life questioning and writing many ideas. Communism is probably one of the most associated terms with Karl Marx, and communism is viewed as an evil economic system but Marx didn’t create communism to be evil. In fact, many of my previous teachers and professors have stated that Marx’s idea of communism was an impressive idea and it seemed like it would work on paper but, it was executed terrible in countries like Russia and China. The life surrounding Marx is what influence him writing his most famous piece of literature and without the events in his life falling into play Marx wouldn’t be known worldwide like he is today. Starting with his life, Karl Marx was born and raised in Trier, Germany. He was one of nine children and his father was lawyer meaning his family was probably in the middle-class division. Marx had an average childhood, he was home schooled till the age of 12 and then attended high school and then college after. University of Bon was the first school Marx went to but he only attended a year because like any typical student he embraced the college life. “In his two semesters there, he was imprisoned for drunkenness and disturbing the peace, incurred debts and participated in a duel.” (Karl Marx Biography). With socialism in mind Marx wrote “The German Ideology”, which wasn’t published till after his death. “…he wrote The German Ideology, in which he first developed his theory on historical materialism.” (Karl Marx Biography). Materialism meaning that objects and other material items being more important than the life and ideas around someone currently. While in Brussels Marx founded his own communist committee to try and join socialists from around Europe but he failed till a group of socialist from England joined together renaming themselves the communist league and requested Marx and Engels to write a pamphlet for the group. Together they did and it was known as “The Communist Manifesto”. Shortly after Marx was forced to move to London, England because he was expelled from Brussels because they had the fear that a revolution would start within the working-class due to “The Communist Manifesto”. When Marx made it to London he marked it the official headquarters for the new communist league. Now while in London Marx worked at the “New York Daily Tribune” as a journalist and he helped found the “German Workers Educational Society”.
