For thousands of years people have been inventing and making advancements in every aspect of our lives. It is also crucial to these innovators that they be rewarded and recognized for their ideas, and that they cannot be copied by a third party. To ensure this, the patent was introduced into the world and now protects millions of inventions and processes from fraud. The importance of a patent to an engineer’s lifestyle is enormous, as many would not be able to make a living if it were not for the documentations and systems that are in place today. However, patents did not always exist, and innovators were not always protected. This essay will touch on what a patent is, explain the great importance of a patent, as well as show the effects of not receiving a patent for one’s ideas.
In order to protect one’s intellectual property, a patent is often needed so that the innovation can be properly documented and the owner can be proven. A patent’s physical form is that of a drawing or diagram of a certain process, invention, or improvement accompanied by a description that allows for better understanding of the concepts and ideas that are to be protected. When in innovator receives a patent for their work, the documentation ensures that the intellectual property is owned by the person that created it, and gives the intangible asset a physical representation. Once a patent is issued, the owner of the patent, or patent holder, has full legal rights over his ideas and inventions depicted within the patent. This allows the patent holder to ensure he is the only one profiting from his ideas, to give specific groups or companies permission to use said ideas, or to transfer the ownership of the patent to another party for their use.

This shows the importance that a patent has on not only financial matters, but the moral and ethical issues that are possible when one’s invention is out of their control.
In conclusion, the importance of a patent in the creation of the world today is incredible. Since the first patent in 1449, the patenting system has protected millions engineers and ensured that they have full ownership of their work. Had it not been for the simple documentation that allows engineers and inventors to market their ideas as assets, as well as to protect against, fraud, many creators would not have had the opportunities to make the incredible advancements that we not benefit so greatly from today.

Do you drive a car or some form of motorized vehicle? If so, then it has been related to Henry Ford. Henry Ford fought for the copyrights of his creations. He fought the government to earn his right to own what he put his money, time and energy into making. Henry also created the assembly line hence making it easier, faster and cheaper to make a quality car that almost anybody could afford and that would last. Some of the cars he built are still around today! He changed the Automotive history for ever. In 1895, businessmen bought the Seldon patent for all gas powered vehicles and all internal combustion engines that were built were owned by the owner of the patent. So this meant that Henry would not own what he built. The men who owned this patent did. Ford did not like this at all so he fought against this so he could own his idea and in turn sell it to the public. Ford later turned and took ALAM to court and it was a long and grueling process but in the end he came out on top.His idea was a afordable, strong, car that your normal working family could afford and not break the bank.

During the late 1800’s, there was a time of great change. This was near the end of the industrial revolution in America. Some of the greatest inventions were invented during this time. We still use most of the inventions today, they are just modified to fit the needs of America today. 3 of the major inventions and innovations that came out of this time were the telephone, typewriter, and the incandescent light bulb.
Intellectual Property Law used to only protect art, music, and literature, but because of technological development, Intellectual Property Law now also protects a greater variety of innovations including designs, inventions, symbols, discoveries, and words. The phrase “intellectual property” was first known to be used in the late 1700’s; however, it was not widely talked about, nor was the Intellectual Property Law in actuality commonly implemented. Intellectual Property Rights slowly gained more attention by mid-1800’s after the Industrial Revolution had taken place: more companies were created, competition between corporations became fiercer, and owning unique innovations were crucial to winning the competition. However, as Intellectual Property
The Theme of our Almanac is Science and Technology so my Historical Analysis will be based off of the Science and Technology of the Industrial Revolution. My historical analysis will be about the inventions during the Industrial Revolution. The three I will be focusing on: The Water Frame, The Improved Steam Engine and the Sewing Machine. All three of those inventions all offer some sort of Problem, Progress and Promise to the Industrial Revolution. I will be analyzing those three things.
People today have been over powered with 21st Century technology. Now-a-days people don’t have enough energy just because of the new technology. Let’s go back in time and think about eye-catching inventions in the old times and how it changed the world and everyday life. The telephone! Imagine, a world without smartphones but only speed-dial phones. Yes, those are the kinds of phones that are very popular long ago but the question is “How does the new invention change our daily lives?” For one thing, it would take you about 3-5 minutes just to make a phone call an plus, it is not at all portable. Mainly, telephones back then are way different from telephones today.

My great grandmother was born on September 30, 1895 in Strum, Wisconsin, and used to tell us the most important invention for the home, in her lifetime, was the clothes washing machine. Now history always seems to make the present era seem more civilized, when in fact, it is probably only cleaner, thanks to my grandmother's favorite invention. But, I wonder if it is easier. Certainly, there were many patents issued in the 1880's for inventions that truly would change the lives of future generations, and a handful of these amazing contrivances would have a great impact on that which is truly important to an industrialized nation: the machinery that speeds business, business being the true backbone of a country, but to a country girl whose family depended on farming, the clothes washing machine still stands out as the one that saved her the most time.
The Invention of The Automobile The first automobile was invented in Europe, however the automobile industry had an enormous favorable impact on the United States economy. Because of its intangible nature, and particularly the increase of the digital domain and the internet as a whole, computers and cyber piracy make it easier for people to steal many forms of intellectual property. Due to this major threat, intellectual property rights owners’ should take every single measure to protect their rights.
