I am Against of Arranged Marriages
Why do others have to choose with whom we will share the rest of our lives, and who will be the father of our children? Do we not have our own opinion to make such delicate decisions? Marriage is a very important step that we will take someday, but when its principles are ignored, and the election becomes an obligation and responsibility, the basis of marriage does not exist and turns into a lie. This is what happens in arranged marriages where parents choose a partner for their children based on their own desires. I strongly believe these marriages lack of the essential components for their success like freedom to choose, love, privacy, and independence that is a trigger for domestic violence.

These elements are not priorities in this society due to their cultural belief that the most important thing is money and power. Everybody knows that love is the most powerful and pleasant feeling that any human being can enjoy with someone else, but unfortunately, in these kinds of marriages, the most important thing is to preserve old traditions and keep customs alive. The goal of these marriages involves economic and social obligations to these families who force these marriages upon these young girls. These couples do not have the opportunity to meet and share time together before marriage because it is the family who organizes everything, which means they do not have love and privacy as a couple. Families are extremely connected with their children’s married lives and put too much pressure on them because if the marriage does not work and ends in a divorce, they are humiliated and lose their honor. For instance, Shelly Ulaj grew up in New York in a traditional Albanian home where dating and divorce did not exist, and keeping the tradition of their culture was the most important thing. She married an Albanian man ten years older than she, and even though her marriage lasted nine years, she felt like a prisoner, fell into a terrible depression, and struggled with anorexia because she realized that she did not love him, and they had nothing in common. Arranged marriages have lower divorce
ironic due to the fact that the Catholic church had many ongoing issues that were yet to be solved. A great majority of priests and churchgoers or members of the church were purchasing and selling indulgences along with the situation of people going against the church as well. The Renaissance was also a time where people started acting as individuals, and not wanting to get caught up in the corporate identity. It is said that the Renaissance was when individualism was created. Martin Luther was a person
ladies and gentleman. The topic for this debate is that ‘arranged marriages should be outlawed’. We, as the affirmative team, strongly believe that this statement is true. What does an arranged marriage mean? ‘Arranged’ is defined as when someone or a group of people set up something together. Marriage is defined as the legally or formally recognized union of a man and a woman. In this context, arranged marriages are defined as a marriage planned and agreed to by the families or guardians of the
Arranged Marriages- Good or Bad? The way in which arranged marriages are handled determines whether or not they are cruel and old-fashioned. I am now going to provide a balanced argument that takes all the different views into consideration. Islam is one religion that uses arranged marriages. Not only are the marriages arranged by the parents but also by older relatives as well. They believe that the parents know all about their children so they are capable of choosing a suitable partner
Tales When comparing roles and perceptions of women in the Canterbury Tales to medieval period and modern day times, similarities and differences exist in each era. For instance, values and roles of marriage in the Canterbury Tales coincide to the medieval period, yet when it comes to comparing marriage in modern day times there are significant differences as well as some similarities. In addition, there is evidence in the Canterbury Tales of women being very limited to occupational opportunities
Marriage in The Importance of Being Earnest The Importance of Being Earnest is a play by Oscar Wilde. Oscar describes his play as A Trivia comedy for serious people. The protagonists in the play maintains being fictitious in order to escape burdensome social obligations. The play is lighthearted with flippant comments and offhand jokes, however the play contains serious undertones and social commentary about marriage and the society. Oscar Wilde in his plat portrays marriage in the Victorian Era
she are happy mothers made” (1.2.12). Paris's argument to not wait for his and Juliet’s marriage is that there are many girls who are even younger than Juliet who are married and have already started a family. Juliet’s age puts her in a place where she is expected to contribute a child. This may be why she was in such a rush to get married to Romeo. Marriage of her choosing to Romeo prevents the marriage against her will to Paris. The influence placed on Juliet by her family is itself shaped by expectations
When it is time for me to fill out any form that asks me to check my ethnicity I become confused. My confusion comes from the difficulty of not finding my ethnicity on one of the boxes and the assumption of others who sees me differently. The assumption of me being either from India or Bangladesh becomes an astonishing revelation when I say that I am not from either country. I identify myself as Guyanese Indian. I was born in Guyana by native Guyanese parents. However, my grandparents and great
support terrorism under any circumstances. Terrorism goes against every principle in Islam. If a Muslim engages in terrorism, he is not following Islam. He may be wrongly using the name of Islam for political or financial gain” (USA Today). From here we see that terrorism is not a teaching of Islam, but, rather prohibited. Islam is an encompassing religion which covers all aspects of one’s life from financial well-being to diet and to marriage. In a s... ... middle of paper ... ... your own bride

but instead she goes against her father’s wishes and acts more educated than she really is. Romeo being the main male role in this play is supposed to be focused and noble, but instead he is passionate in love and isn't very wise with decisions but in comparison to Paris, who is very masculine, focused and noble shows a real renaissance male. This paper will demonstrate how Shakespeare uses gender role reversement ; by having feminism and masculinity, arrangement of marriages, and compare and contrast
Child marriage is a popular practice in India and Middle Eastern countries. It is defined as “a formal union before the age of eighteen” (unicef). In some cases the husband can be more than twice the age of the young girl. The median age of women at the time of their marriage is starting to increase, although this primarily includes women in higher income families. Seen as taboo in western countries, the practice is common in rural towns in places like India and Yemen. As a result of the marriage
negative treatment that women received from society in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Within this play one theme I would like to concentrate on is how women were treated during this era. They were basically represented as if they were not humans, mainly like objects in a way that they were thrown around as if they were useless and some were spoken offensively to. I will be examining how Hippolyta, Helena and Hermia were treated by men in this time. Women within this story did not have
Throughout this semester, I have learned many cultural differences and how individuals have to adapt to different environments. This class helped me realize how important it is to learn a little bit about other cultures. My major is International Business, and this professional field requires individuals to know how other cultures work and what we can expect from them. In other words, in International Business, it is very important to know how other cultures manage business because if an individual
