My area of interest to research is interracial dating, and racial differences. I am interested in learning more about the dynamics of interracial dating, and the factors of an individual’s background that influences it. This topic is personally interesting to me because it involves interactions between races. Also, it involves factors that allow or hinder the bonds between races to form and grow. My first research question is: To what extent does social factors affect participation or views on interracial dating? For instance, does the parent’s race change an individual’s perceptions on interracial dating? Society could attempt to carry on some of these values, which could lead to better cohesion between racial groups. With a lot of racial tension in today’s world there should be an effort to improve things, so we don’t have groups of people hating each other because the color one’s skin. This topic is socially and culturally relevant, because it is related to the social makeup of individuals along with the aspects of their culture that influence there viewpoints. When dealing with social artifacts and images that carry a history and deeper meaning we are talking about traditions of a society. If a part of your culture is emotionally disruptive it would seem wise to be more aware of the harm that could be done, and make a better effort to shield people from harm. Most groups have some images that bring up negative emotions. It’s easy to say “get over it”, but when it’s the other way around it hurts. In class, we watched a film called Ethnic Notions. In this film, it brought to light how devastating and powerful images can be. Due to exaggerated images and caricatures created pre-civil war era of black men and women, stereotypes were created and have negatively affected the black race in society. Caricatures, such as the Sambo, Zip Coon, Mammy, and Brute, have unfortunately been engrained in the minds of generations. So much so their stereotypes still persist today.

For my Identity Essay I read Negotiating Differences Glimpses into a Canadian Interracial Relationship by Bina Mehta and Kevin Spooner. The chapter talks about their relationships and some of the conflicts they faced as an interracial couple.
Race and ethnicity is a main factor in the way we identify others and ourselves. The real question here is does race/ethnicity still matter in the U.S.? For some groups race is not a factor that affects them greatly and for others it is a constant occurrence in their mind. But how do people of mix race reacts to this concept, do they feel greatly affected by their race? This is the question we will answer throughout the paper. I will first examine the battle of interracial relationship throughout history and explain how the history greatly explains the importance of being multiracial today. This includes the backlash and cruelty towards interracial couple and their multiracial children. Being part of a multiracial group still contains its impact in today’s society; therefore race still remaining to matter to this group in the U.S. People who place themselves in this category are constantly conflicted with more than one cultural backgrounds and often have difficulty to be accepted.
With that being said, all Americans should be allowed to live in a country where they feel safe and free of hatred. If a historical symbol fuels hatred, violence, and fear then the display of such a symbol would only misinterpret the meaning of the land of the free.
America has had a long history of racism. This fact is more easily understood if racism is understood for what it really is. It is more than just personal hatred. Racism is the “belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another, that a person’s social and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics” (What is Racism). The 21st century has brought a lot of changes to the American society. Nevertheless, racism still exists owing to the truth that it is still impossible to persuade the hearts of mankind in terms of racism, which leads to many people wondering how and when black and white racism will end in America. Many solutions have been suggested, and one of the various solutions is black and white interracial relationships. Such relationships have recently been successful in the 21st century, which leads us to the definitive question: can interracial relationships help reduce black and white racism in the 21st century?
Marriage, as an institution, has evolved in the last few decades. As society progresses, the ideas and attitudes about marriage have shifted. Today, individuals are able to choose their partners and are more likely marry for love than convenience. While individuals are guaranteed the right to marry and the freedom to choose their own partners, it has not always been this way. Starting from colonial times up until the late 1960’s, the law in several states prohibited interracial marriages and unions. Fortunately, in 1967, a landmark case deemed such laws as unconstitutional. Currently, as society progresses, racism and social prejudice have decreased and interracial marriages have become, not only legal, but also widely accepted.
When a person of color is in a relationship with a white person, their relationship is often met with great tension. The history of issues with interracial relationships in the United States is long. Loving someone across the color line was once illegal, but now that segregation is over, more people are having interracial relationships.
The media has a strong influence on how societies receive and react to the context of the messages that the media displays to the public. From Disney movies on up to horror films there’s a plot that each film is trying to accomplish. The controversial issue comes into play based on how the film messages are portrayed. Films that use racial humor harm the particular race that the films are depicting. Films with racial humor that is enhanced to be seen as acceptable creates prejudge mental labels for certain races. Interracial Marriage is such a beautiful aspect in life. It is so unique that it has made each and everyone one of us unique as well. We all carry two different bloodlines in ourselves from two very important people we love. I support interracial marriage and believe that it unites us to not discriminate one another. It brings us closer by learning about another culture/religion, incorporating aspects of new culture/religion into daily life, and having an incredible experience with someone that will offer so much love and respect no matter what. My mother and father are two people I know who are in an interracial marriage. My father is from El Salvador and my mother is from Guatemala. They both have many benefits in their lives since they came from different countries.

Imagine being in an interracial relationship where racism is still thriving and having to feel afraid to express your love for your significant other. Throughout high school, I was in a relationship with a biracial boy, who has a Caucasian mother and African-American father. I knew I was in love with my boyfriend but still realized that dating someone who is not of the same race is viewed as controversial in America. While I believed I had the found the perfect guy, including his skin tone, my father disagreed; he told me that my decision was unacceptable and prohibited because of conditions in America. If all men are created equal, then why should differences in race matter? Unfortunately our society has not lived up to the standards set by its forefathers.
When I first started dating my girlfriend we went on dates too many different locations and still do, but when we started going out we would go grab lunch or dinner and even go to different events that we’re hosted such as concerts. I remember one of our first dates we just decided to grab the ice cream and a movie. So, I remember going to pick her up and the connection was their fast we kept bouncing back and forward making jokes and endless laughter. From my perspective, I felt that we were creating a strong connection. Also, I didn’t have to be the starter of the conversations she was engaged as well. From the movie to going to grab ice cream, I remember it wasn’t a dull time the humor was present all the way until the night came to an end.
What exactly is blind dating? A definition of blind dating is when on a date with a person with whom one don’t know until the actual date. Usually the date up by someone you know, for example a friend, a relative, or even a colleague from work. Blind dating can be wicked, but it’s convenient and you are opening yourself to meet people that don’t quite fit into the social norms of life, also known as a nutter.
