My area of interest to research is interracial dating, and racial differences. I am interested in learning more about the dynamics of interracial dating, and the factors of an individual’s background that influences it. This topic is personally interesting to me because it involves interactions between races. Also, it involves factors that allow or hinder the bonds between races to form and grow. My first research question is: To what extent does social factors affect participation or views on interracial dating? For instance, does the parent’s race change an individual’s perceptions on interracial dating? Society could attempt to carry on some of these values, which could lead to better cohesion between racial groups. With a lot of racial tension in today’s world there should be an effort to improve things, so we don’t have groups of people hating each other because the color one’s skin. This topic is socially and culturally relevant, because it is related to the social makeup of individuals along with the aspects of their culture that influence there viewpoints. Each culture views things slightly different, and it would be beneficial to gain knowledge and create a less race charged world. This subject is relevant to the larger public for a few reasons. Firstly, there is a stigma towards interracial dating because in large part it is seen as “selling out” to your own race. When dealing with social artifacts and images that carry a history and deeper meaning we are talking about traditions of a society. If a part of your culture is emotionally disruptive it would seem wise to be more aware of the harm that could be done, and make a better effort to shield people from harm. Most groups have some images that bring up negative emotions. It’s easy to say “get over it”, but when it’s the other way around it hurts. So we as a society and culture should invest time and effort to target signs of racial charged symbols, and do our best to inform and encourage members of society to be as courteous when
