Hate crime is happening every day in all over the world. Most of the victims of hate crime are homosexuals. Many people are guilty of discrimination against lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, whether consciously, or unconsciously. LGBT community is faced with daily discrimination from society, peers, family and school teachers and administration, and even from their government. Hate crimes also come in different forms such as hate speech, mentally torturing, physically abusing, and even murdering. Hate crimes are happening too frequently in Russia. In Bangladesh same-sex sexual or romantic activities are not respected, with LGBT people facing discrimination, verbal and physical abuse, and unique legal and social challenges. Same-sex sexual activity, whether in public or private, is illegal and punishable with fines and up to life imprisonment. Recently, Bangladesh gay rights activities were hacked to death. One of the victims was Julhas Mannan. Julhas Mannan was the editor of Roopbaan, the only gay and transgender magazine in Bangladesh. Julhas also helped to organize a march for gay and transgender youths that had been scheduled for the Bengali New year on April 14. The march is known as Rainbow Rally. This had attracted the attention of extremist groups. One of Julhas Mannan friends, Sara Hossain said, Julhus had received “very vicious, murderous threats” (Barry). But Mannan didn’t stop himself and continued his determination to change the society. But the society is much stronger and bigger than him and made him shut up permanently. Bangladesh has a law against any kind of intercourse between homosexuals. In 2013, the Bangladeshi parliament has refused to overturn section 377. Medical Authorities said the Homosexuality was a Mental Defect, a form of Sexual Psychopath. “Gay people who were sentenced to Mental Institutions, because they were found to Sexual Psychopaths which means found to be homosexual” (Mixner). They were subjected to imprisonment, and often in many forms of surgeries such Lobotomies, castration, and sterilization. It was there to cure homosexuality. The most infamous of these institutions is an Atascadero State Mental Hospital. It was located in California. The brutal medical experimentation done on homosexual men in Atascadero. “At Atascadero State Hospital, doctors were permitted under the California Law to commit those who practiced sodomy into hospital” (Mixner). Even up until 1971, simply being a homosexual could result in a life sentence. “Twenty states had laws stating that the mere fact, you were a homosexual was reason for imprisonment” (Carlos Maza). It shows homosexuals are treated horribly in the past. They were being beaten and arrested just because of their sexual preferences. The government was also violating homosexuals’ human rights in America.
