Government's Responce To Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina, one of the most devastating and costly tropical cyclones to ever impact the country, ravaged the southeastern United States on August 29, 2005. New Orleans, bearing the brunt of Katrina, was in a state of chaos. Government aid did not reach the city until several days after the storm made landfall. Many people argue that this delay in government aid forced the people of New Orleans to migrate out of the city. I agree and disagree with this statement. I believe that the government had no option after the hurricane struck other than to transfer the people elsewhere, however, I believe that government aid to the city should have arrived in a much more organized and prompt manner than it did.

In my opinion, after the hurricane struck, the government had no choice other than move the people out of the city. As highlighted in the documentary When the Levees Broke, the levee system designed to protect New Orleans from flooding failed, causing 80% of the city to be inundated with water.
