America now has more wealth and income inequality than any major developed country on earth, and the gap between the very rich and everyone else is wider than at any time since the 1920s. Such gap causes education inequality. Parents who earn low income are unable to allow their kids attain qualified education and in turns kids get low-income jobs or unemployment when growing up, which rendering the vicious circle of poverty. How to narrow the education gap at the source? Beginning with the preschool period. Specifically, children from economically disadvantaged families have substantial gaps in cognitive and academic abilities with their more advantaged peers (although they may have the same enthusiasm for learning), which will still persist in later school years. How could that happen? Differences in children 's early childhood experiences play a determinative role in shaping school readiness and predominantly contribute to the skill gaps during school period. Early in life, responsive and cognitively stimulating care fosters the language and cognitive skills that facilitate learning (Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000).
Under such situation, here comes the Head Start, aiming at improving the school readiness of young children from low-income families by delivering services through local resources in their community. It is unique that it not only focuses on educational programming, but also on health and nutrition, social services, and parent involvement. My research is to figure out what is the outcomes of the Head Start? To what extent does the Head Start influence children and parents?

...nal processes in parent-children relation among families whose children attend Head Start (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 1998; Sameroff & Rosenblum, 2006). The data reflects that parents whose children participated in Head Start made more significant advances in their own education compared to parents whose children did not attend Head Start. While, Head Start participation did not lead to higher rates of parents’ employment. The gap of this paper is that it could not explain why the Head Start did not lead to the increase of parents’ employment? It seems like the progress of education is a positive effect to employment, while the reality is that the advances of parents’ education does not necessarily impact the employment. So I raise the hypothesis that are there other factors preventing parents from employed, like valid time, urbanicity, race, country of origin and age?
