Whether or not a group of people are doing the wrong thing, the action will always be wrong. In any case, cheating is simply not a moral thing to do. Yet, many people do it anyways. A person will figure that they won 't get caught. Cheating can happen in a relationship, on a paper or exam. The severity of the wrongdoing depends on what the person did. At some point, mostly everyone will question will ask questions on whether their action is wrong. In most ethical issues, it 's either a white or black area. What someone sees as an action that is completely innocent, another may view it as unethical. Critical thinkers will often justify If a person does a terrible action, then they will come up with an excuse. An example would be a boyfriend who believes that something is going on between his girlfriend and her friend. The girlfriend has two decisions: either be careful with her actions or flirt more with her friend. The second action would technically be fighting fire with fire. Since the boyfriend is essentially accusing the girlfriend of having an affair, the girlfriend may try to make his accusations right. Rationalizations like these can often cause problems in a relationship. Problems that weren 't even there in the first place. I experienced this last Friday. My boyfriend had to go to the tutoring center to work on two assignments. The tutor that I’m good friends with was working at the same time. So, the two were in the same room together. I had a small panic attack because I noticed that my boyfriend was in the main tutoring room and the tutor was nearby. My boyfriend already doesn’t like him so being in the same room with both of them was definitely awkward. But, it made me realize my actions with the tutor. Every week, he and I would spend four hours of alone time together and some interesting topics would come up. I felt some guilt when they were in the same room. It’s not kissing, but it doesn’t make the decision
Cheating is defined in the dictionary as, to deceive by trickery; swindle, however the dictionary fails to tell you if it is right or wrong to cheat. People have many different beliefs when it comes to cheating; some think its fine to do while others completely disapprove. I intend to show the different beliefs, from different perspectives of people, and also intend on proving which beliefs have the strongest and weakest arguments.
Luke had always been the one student to cheat. Each time he had homework, he depended on his friends to get it completed. Every time he had to take a test, his desk partner or cheat sheet was always by his side. His grades were then much higher than average, and people expected so much of him. He had cheated so much during high school that it had become his daily routine. On graduation day, Luke graduated with high honors. He was accepted into one of the best universities in the state. When applying, he was asked to sign an honor pledge so he was able to get into the school. When summer break was over, he packed his things and moved into his new dorm room at college. When his classes started, he got loads of homework. Luke was thankful to have most of his classes with his roommate, so that he was able to cheat off of him. Luke made it through most of the semester by cheating on each worksheet or paper that he had to complete. At the end of the semester, he had many tests that he had to do. Luke made cheat sheets that he planned on using during the tests, but each one was observed closely. He suddenly realized how difficult it was to complete each test when he knew none of the information. Each one he completed, he scored low on it, making his final grade much lower than people had expected him to get. On his final test, he understood none of the material, so he decided to take the risk and get his cheat sheet out when he thought that the college professor was not looking. Unfortunately for Luke, he was caught. He was asked to leave the classroom and later found out that he was kicked out of the class. People were surprised that Luke was caught cheating, because most had thought better of him. Luke made the poor decision to cheat on one test and was caught, getting him into trouble that he would remember for the rest of his life. Luke’s future could possibly be affected by his decision to cheat, and cheating is a decision that he would not choose to make again. Luke’s future needs to be sustainable, but will his future be sustained if he makes the poor decision to cheat?
Cost-benefit analysis is a systematic process for calculating and analyzing both the cost and benefit and then calculating which action is best for one to be involve in, actions such as; an activity, an decision, or an government policy and figuring out the benefits and costs of the project. One has to determine if the choice one is making is sound and that they would benefit from it rather than receiving zero gratification out of it. The cost of cheating in an University is that one will be on disciplinary probation, suspension, dismissal from Winthrop, and etc. Cheating is like a major crime in college. There are a few benefits from cheating include assuring one a good grade, with little work/studying required. However, the consequences of cheating and getting caught by a professor overweight any benefits that one might think cheating may have.
A couple weeks ago, I was sitting on the hallway waiting for my class to start when I heard a couple commenting about politics. Immediately their conversation caught my attention; I am always curious to know what other people think about the topic and their reasoning behind it. As it was expected, Hillary Clinton came up during their debate. To the mere mentioning of the name, one started to giggle, arguing that how was she supposed to be a president and control a nation when she cannot even control her husband or at least make him happy. Clinton should be so mean and so frigid that Bill did not have other choice but to commit infidelity. I was perplexed after having heard such theories. How do people behave when they face a number of chances to cheat with little or no risk of exposure? In this summary I will present the results of 4 studies made to determine whether or not people take advance of opportunities to cheat. This experiment is important to companies and institutions to know more about their employees and/or students’ behaviors when exposed to situations when they can or have a chance to cheat, if most institutions understand the behavior related to cheating and opportunities to so do, they can be more prepared to avoid this type of situations, and eventually to catch them.
What is cheating? Cheating is the dishonesty of an individual for their personal advantage. Base on various studies conducted cheating is getting worse among students. Students are cheating to get higher grades so that they look smart. Students are even cheating their way into colleges and universities. This is becoming a major problem and it does not only affect students but school administrators, employers and even generations to come. Don McCabe (2010) conducted a survey among 24,000 high school students at 70 high schools in the United States. 64% Of students admitted to cheating on a test, 58% admitted to plagiarism and 95% participated in some form of cheating. For college students, 70% of students, report to some form of cheating.
First of all, cheating is morally incorrect. We learn this in the earliest stages of childhood and throughout our life. It is a general assumption that cheating is wrong. Another way to describe it is sensible, insightful, responsible, and skillful thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe or do. Critical thinking is not being able to process information well enough to know to stop for red lights or whether you established the right change at the supermarket.
Cheating on exams is a violation of college standards; it is a misrepresentation of the student’s true capabilities. Cheating can be the worst form of deception, it is considered to be unethical, and it is the opposite of honesty. Forms of academic dishonesty may include copying from the test of someone within eyesight, crib sheets or swapping papers. Likewise because of technological advances, such as the I-phone some of these devices may be used to cheat as well. For instance an exam could be photographed and e-mailed to another student. I believe it is relatively safe to assume if a person is going to cheat on college exams, they are likely to make similar choices in other areas of their life. The practice of cheating can contribute to the moral decline of the family and society. Perhaps their need to be right is stronger than wanting to do the right thing. However, we all know what it feels like when someone cheats us; the cheater may not think that their actions affect anyone, however their can be unintended consequences. Consequently doing the right thing usually requires more time and hard work so the cheater typically rationalizes they do it because they did not have enough time to study.
