Violence has been on movies since the beginning of the film industry. Violence in movies has been increasing over the years. A normal average american watches about five hours of video each day;which equals out to 98% of people watching traditional television. That is nearly two thirds of TV programs containing crimes and violence. Even video games for children now have violence and harsh crimes in them. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics during 2001 and 2010 the violent crime rates went down by 40%. In 2011 the violent crime rate increased from 22.6 victims per 1,000 persons aging 12 and older to 26.1 in 2012. These statistics of the violent crimes are for rape, sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple assault.
Media violence is only one of many factors for later violent behavior. Therefor violent behavior does not occur when there is only one risk factor present. So, a normal healthy person would not go on a killing rampage because they played a violent video game or watching a lot of violent movies. A lot people think that violence comes from movies or video games, but yet they watch a violent movie, and think to themselves why am i not a killer. It is mainly because they have came from a good home and where raised properly. Violent behavior is caused by numerous factors and usually are clashing together. Many people think the violent media has no effect because the have not killed anyone after watching a violent movie or show. In one 15 year long study, heavy viewers of violent movies where shown to first and third graders, and they were three times more likely to have been convicted of a criminal behavior by the time they reached there 20’s. They where also more likely to abuse and assault others.

In july 1995, Byers started taking legal actions towards Sarah and Darras, but in march 1996 she amender her lawsuit ti include Oliver Stone and the Warner Company. A case was made that there is a direct link between Natural Born Killers and the death of Savage. On January 23,1997 the First Amendment protected Oliver stone and the Warner Company and the case was dropped, but Byers appealed. On may 15, 1998 the court of appeals overturned the decision claiming that Byers did have a good case against the filmmakers. Byers died of cancer in late 1997 so this was not much use to her. On march 12, 2001 judge Robert Morrison dismissed the case because there was no evidence that Warner or Oliver Stone intended to make a impact on violence. In 2002 the court of appeal turned down the appeal from Byers and the suit was closed.
