While Reading about the Association of Zoo Veterinarian Technicians (AZVT) I found their purpose quite interesting. Their objectives are to promote and improve professional standards among zoo technicians. Also, to maintain a cooperative working relationship with other zoo professionals. Provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of information, challenges, and methodology encountered in the field of zoo veterinary technology through a quarterly newsletter, annual, and regional conferences. Encourage the recognition of the importance of the veterinary technician's role in zoo veterinary medicine, scientific study, and conservation. Educate the public, increasing the appreciation of the bond between human beings and all life on earth.
Considering the many challenges animals face in the wild, it is understandable that people may be eager to support zoos and may feel that they are protective facilities necessary for animal life. In the article “ Zoos Are Not Prisons. They Improve the Lives of Animals”, Author Robin Ganzert argues that Zoos are ethical institutions that enrich the lives of animals and ultimately protect them. Statistics have shown that animals held in captivity have limited utilitarian function resulting in cramped quarters, poor diets, depression, and early death for the animals thus, proving that Zoos are not ethical institutions that support and better the lives of animals as author Robin Ganzert stated (Cokal 491). Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
A Veterinarian Technician (vet techs) can have a rough life when the job involves saving animals. However the job takes, schooling, commitment, and having passion and love for animals. Being able to work and handle animals is a dream come true; it allows people to see what a pet could do for it’s handler. Maintaining a job that researches certain illnesses and broken bones allows a veterinarian technician to help animals in need. This helps bridge the gap between environment and families all over the world who love animals.
For this project, I decided to take on the career of a veterinarian. As a veterinarian, I would have to examine animals to diagnose their health problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgery on animals,test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment(x-ray machines, etc.), advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals. To get a job in this profession, you have to have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. You also have to have to take many science classes including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science.You would have to take about four years of college which adds up to about $100,000 dollars in student

According to the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA), a nonprofit organization that is committed to help zoos and aquariums in conservation, there are over 10,000 zoos, aquariums, and reserves worldwide. The Department of Agriculture has about 2,400 licensed zoos and aquariums in the United States alone. Of these 2,400 zoos and aquariums, only 212 are associated with the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. This paper reviews and analyzes three main issues with the first one being leadership. Other sub-issues involve lack of vision, coercive leadership style, using taxpayer’s money for personal benefit and irresponsible top management. The organizational structure, mixed communication, and no clear indication to who to report to is the second. The third being communication, this paper tackles lack of the ability to speak about the actual problems in fear of being ostracized; if you’re not with us; you’re against us. We suggest a solution based on our SWOT analysis, star bursting, brainstorm, mind map, and rational decision making tool. With the use of these five tools we hope to help solve the problem at hand by making the city zoo a more engaging and dynamic experience for both employees and the public.
In one way or another, I have been taking care of animals my entire life. Growing up, I was completely dedicated to animals, caring for what could be considered a mini zoo. Naturally, as a child, I was set on a career as a veterinarian. Like most children, I was naive about the veterinary profession, but I had plenty of people to warn me about its challenges. Albeit initially discouraged from becoming a veterinarian, my search for a meaningful career not only revived my spark for veterinary medicine but also gave me the maturity and experience necessary to succeed in it.
The purpose of this paper is to focus on a subject within my educational field that I can research and inform the public about. I plan to become a veterinarian .which would require my daily contact with humans and animals. Zoonotic diseases are risk factors that I have to be aware of in order to protect myself as well as my patients and their owners. Luckily developments in medicine have made it possible to cure zoonotic diseases and even prevent them from ever being contracted.

Being up close and personal with animals is a coveted experience that zoos try to bring to everyday life. Zoos today say that one of their main goals is to conserve endangered species and eventually reintroduce them back into the wild. However, Benjamin Beck, former associate director of biological programs at the National Zoo in Washington, found that over the past century only 16 of 145 reintroduction programs worldwide ever actually restored any of the animals back to the wild (qtd. in Fravel). He also found that a majority was carried out by the government and not the actual programs themselves. When the average person thinks about zoology, they usually think about a zoo and or animals. As said in General Zoology, many questions come with this topic. “What is life? In what ways are the various kinds of animals alike or unlike in structure, internal processes, and modes of life? How do animals carry on their activities? How are the many kinds related to one another? In what ways does man resemble and differ from other living things? The answers to many of these questions are provided by the science of zoology.” (General Zoology, page 3). While zoology does involve animals, the general study of zoology is far more complicated then one would imagine. Zoology is a branch of biology that studies the classification, origins, habitats and behaviors of organisms. Someone who studies zoology is a zoologist, and has the tasks of learning about new species and their habitats. It is a job that if mastered, can be one of the most fulfilling and knowledgeable careers someone can obtain.

Many people who want to be a zoologist have characteristics that include a love of animals, and doing well in their science and math classes. This career isn’t just fieldwork, zoologist will also have to work in laboratories and conduct studies about animals and factors that affect them. This job doesn’t require too much education after high school, but to obtain a higher position in this profession, more schooling will be needed.
