When she got to the hospital the doctors didn’t think there was anything wrong with her she just didn’t feel good until they did some test to see if there actually was anything wrong with her. Unplanned pregnancies are very common in the show. The show tackled the topic of abortion by revealing that Jane's mother, Xiomara, had a medication abortion after learning that she had gotten pregnant from a one-night-stand. The show also touched on abortion earlier when Jane is mistakenly artificially fertilized in the pilot episode, and the topic comes up as an option when Jane is figuring out what to do about her pregnancy. But for Xiomara’s case, it was taken in a different situation. Although she had the abortion off-screen, so the episode began when she already had the abortion, it marked the first time a Latina character has had an abortion on television.

It was a warm morning, Leah was getting ready to see her new high school with her mom. She looked through the window and saw a young boy around her age wearing a red cap, cutting off weed and fixing up a place across from where she lives. The guy knew she was looking at him from across the window, so he looked up and gave a smile at her. Leah moved away from the window and got embarrassed. She then took another peek and saw that the guy left with his bicycle, she was wondering who he was. A few minutes later, Leah’s mother took her to the high school she will be attending to, she saw the high school and it was much different where she attended to in New York, it was like a type long house with only 3 big room, they only had 1st year, 2nd year, and 3rd year of high school. They put her 1st year of high school which is like freshman year again. Leah will be starting high school within 2 weeks. She was kind of excited but yet nervous about how people will act with her since she can’t speak much Spanish. The next day she saw the guy she looked at through the window again cleaning up the property from across her house, he saw her looking at him again and he waved hi to her, Leah hid quickly and turned red, she told herself “ he probably thinks I’m a weirdo or he probably thinks I’m stalking him”. She then wanted to say hi back

Her eyes were heavy, her body weak. As she crawled into the bathroom two feet away, Abby felt her body slowly succumbing to the numbness. All of her pain would be gone in less than 10 minutes, so why would she want to turn back? What about the senior trip Abby had planned with her best friend? What about the chair at the dinner table that would now be vacant? A couple of hours later Abby’s family came home from her little sister’s soccer game. Little did they know what they would find as they approached the top of the stairs. Her little sister, Ali, stood still as she looked down at her feet. There on the cold floor lay her big sister, her role model, and her super hero. Ali was crushed when she saw the pill bottle in her hand and the pale color of her skin. Her mom fell to her knees screaming and crying, wondering where she
Step 1: patient education. The information that is given to the patients should be accurate, thorough, and easy to understand. We need to discuss the options with Gwen and Nicole. Apparently, they have the choice of termination or continuation of the pregnancy. If they choose to continue the pregnancy, they have the option of keeping the baby or putting it up for adoption once it’s born. In order to make an informed decision of whether to keep the baby or not, the couple need to have a comprehensive understanding of the medical conditions that the baby may have if it’s born, the responsibilities that they will face to take care of the baby, and the possible impacts of those responsibilities on their relationship and family life. The doctors and nurses have the responsibilities to deliver the information, help the couple to understand the situation, and answer any questions that they have. As nurses, we need to be unbiased and non-judgmental. Support the couples’ decision anyway we can. Ideally, information should be delivered
It was the biggest challenge she would have to face. Annika Lawrence was a typical 18 years old girl. She had long wavy chestnut hair, with bright blue eyes. She had many friends and a loving family with two dogs, Daisy and Hunter. She had just graduated from a local high school in her town. Her life was perfect, until she went for her physical and was diagnosed with lung cancer. The doctor’s advice to her was “Stop counting your life by years and start counting them by weeks”. “I want to live too!” cried my 3 year old sister. I thought to myself “She is only 3 how does she understand what is happening?”
Influenza viruses are constantly evolving due to the mechanism of antigenic drift. This results in seasonal vaccination to target only specific strains, which puts us in a race against the clock in the prevention of the next pandemic. One key to solving this is the development of a universal influenza vaccine, which would elicit a broad antibody response. This would target either multiple strains or strains from the past, present, and future in a single vaccination. As vaccine may target sites such as the neuraminidase (NA) or the M2 Ion channel, hemagglutinin (HA) is preferred by most approaches due to the consensus amino acids found throughout the different subtype, specifically the stem region (3). However, there are boundaries to the stem approach, such as, that some antibodies have reduced affinity for the stem region (1).

Wildlife diseases have been an increasing problem in ecology with many modes of transmission that are continually being studied. Both emerging and re-emerging wildlife diseases are increasing at an alarming rate, with consequences for ecosystem health and biodiversity (Plowright). The two different types of disease transfer are horizontal and vertical, in which horizontal transmission passes on a disease or virus from individual to individual, whereas vertical transmission passes on a disease from parent to offspring. The ability of any infectious disease to invade a population or transfer to new areas is one of the most important concerns regarding wildlife ecology (van den Driessche).
Nancy was only four years old when her grandmother died. Her grandmother had a big lump on the lower right hand side of her back. The doctors removed it, but it was too late. The tumor had already spread throughout her body. Instead of having a lump on her back, she had a long stitched up incision there. She couldn’t move around; Nancy’s parents had to help her go to the bathroom and do all the simple things that she use to do all by herself. Nancy would ask her grandmother to get up to take her younger sister, Linh, and herself outside so they could play. She never got up. A couple of months later, an ambulance came by their house and took their grandmother away. That was the last time Nancy ever saw her alive. She was in the hospital for about a week and a half. Nancy’s parents never took them to see her. One day, Nancy saw her parents crying and she have never seen them cry before. They dropped Linh and her off at one of their friend’s house. Nancy got mad because she thought they were going shopping and didn’t take her with them.
The Zika virus, has as of lately come to the forefront just as sudden as the Ebola virus outbreak, back in 2014. Currently, not much is known with certainty about Zika, however, it is speculated there is a link between it and congenital malformations seen in newborns and other brain involved ailments which have been compared with the demyelization as it is seen in Multiple Sclerosis.
