An analysis on a young adult’s psychopathology that I know extremely well: myself. The patient is reporting and exhibiting the symptoms of both major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder from the patient’s point of view. An investigation on four different types of therapy that can treat MDD and GAD; cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), existential therapy, art therapy, and group therapy.

There are many forms of treatment for mental disorders. Some may be pharmaceutical interventions while others can be therapy. Therapy can be used in many different ways and instances. For many years, psychologists from varying countries and decades have theorized and created different therapies to treat mental illnesses. For example Sigmund Freud, a previous neurologist, became the father psychoanalysis and later on Carl Rogers became known as the father of humanistic approach to psychology. In psychology, the use of artistic methods to help treat mental disorders is known as art therapy. Art therapy can be used to help one express them when they are unable to use words and it can also help promote one’s well being. A patient can use any medium to help express them. These mediums can be painting, drawing/illustrating, sculpting, crayons/chalk, collages, and even photography. I would carry art journals around with me everywhere I go so when I do get consistent negative emotions at an inconvenient time, such as in class, I would draw to express myself. Art therapy can be used in a vast amount of different mental disorders. This form of therapy wasn’t widely known at first, but it was shown to help many patients with their mental disorders.
