Sookan changes in many ways throughout the book Year of Impossible Goodbyes when faced with the following situations: not knowing about the world, grandfather acts nicer than usual, and the war ends. Sookan starts to feel left out. Sookan doesn't know many things about her country, like why the Japanese hate Koreans. She only knows some things, which is what family members tell her. Aunt tiger told Sookan some things near the start of the book. "They're very clever. They keep us so hungry that we can't do anything but worry about where our next meal is coming from. They keep us hungry for so long we are grateful for whatever little food we get," (Choi 10). This changes Sookan because she starts to know more about how Japanese treat Koreans.
A character that was admirable in the novel “we all fall down” is John. John is the father of Will who is the main character, they spend nearly the entire story together looking for a way out of the world trade center during the 9/11 attacks. During the story you learn that John is very smart, brave, and respected. These are all characteristics which play a crucial role in saving lives such as his co-workers and a random lady they find on the way named ting, but mainly in the ending John and Will successfully escape.
In these five paragraphs I will be writing about the book “Hotel on the Corner of Sweet and Bitter” written by Jamie Ford and five quotation that important and made up the theme for me. This book gives a feel a lot of different emotions. The first quote was “‘You are Chinese aren’t you,Henry? That’s fine. Be who you are, she said, turning away, a look of disappointment in her eyes. “But I’m an American’’(p. 60). This quote is important because it shows how Keiko believes even if her parents are Japanese she feels more American then Japanese since she barely spoke Japanese.

In the book “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury,Montag is a character who is mainly shaped by those around him. Two characters who have a great impact on Montag and shaped him to who he is at the end of the book, are Faber and Beatty. Both Faber and Beatty are two men who love literature and who are both cowards. One thing that is different with these two character is that neither of them like these new rules but only one of them decides that enough is enough and rebels against these rules.
In the memoir Year of Impossible Goodbyes, Sookan changes from someone is curious and scared, and becomes someone who is Brave. This change is seen in three moments when Sookan doesn't lower her gaze during Captian Narita's investigation, When Sookan sands her shards of glass smooth, and during their escape when Sookan becomes Inchun's "mother". My first example is after Captian Narita discovered Kisa's birthday party and is examining Sookan and her family. Sookan doesn't lower her gaze, but everyone in Sookan's family knows that Captian Narita is dangerous, and should be respected. "Except for Grandfather's and mine, everyone's eyes were lowered in silence" (Sook Nyul Choi 27). This quote marks the beginning of Sookan's change. This is

In Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the reader has the experience to understand what it was like to live in an insane asylum during the 1960’s. Kesey shows the reader the world within the asylum of Portland Oregon and all the relationships and social standings that happen within it. The three major characters’ groups, Nurse Ratched, the Black Boys, and McMurphy show how their level of power effects how they are treated in the asylum. Nurse Ratched is the head of the ward and controls everything that goes on in it, as she has the highest authority in the ward and sabotages the patients with her daily rules and rituals. These rituals include her servants, the Black Boys, doing anything she tells them to do with the patients.
Llewelyn Moss is one of the main characters in No Country For Old Men, by Cormac McCarthy. Llewelyn Moss gets himself into a great amount of trouble when he discovers a drug deal gone wrong that eventually leads to the death of multiple people including himself. Through crime and murders, Llewelyn finds himself on the run and comes face to face with what can be described as one of the most evil killers. As the reader discovers the rite of passage of Llewelyn Moss, the reader discovers the mistakes and consequences of the mistakes done by him. Being on the run and being the cause of the deaths of people, Llewelyn can still be seen as the outlaw hero as he fights against true evil.

The Outsiders a book was written by S.E Hinton. Is Johnny a coward or a hero? Johnny is a hero because he sticks up for others and Johnny is brave because he saved Ponyboy and he’s courageous because he saved the kids in the church while it was on fire. Johnny is a hero because he sticks up for others. Dally was harassing Cherry and Johnny sticks up for them. “Leave her alone Dally” pg.24. Johnny is a hero by saying that to Cherry. Ponyboy and Johnny get jumped and Johnny stabs Bob. Johnny is a hero by saving Ponyboy from the socs. Johnny has gone for supplies bologna, bread, cards, cigarettes and bleach. Johnny is a hero by getting them supplies.
The novel Erasure by Percival Everett explores the development of writer Monk Ellison as well as the frame tale Monk sells. After writing My Pafology, Monk continues to struggle with his sister’s death, his mother’s deteriorating health, and the growing sense that he has “sold out”. Monk writes about story ideas, his feelings on art form, and flashbacks to when his father was alive or when he was an adolescent. Through these vignettes of Monk’s thoughts, separated by three ominous X’s, we find not only the extreme intelligence that he has, but also the sadness and isolation his “uniqueness” has brought him. The event in this situation is Grandpa showing how life was for him when Sookan wasn't born yet. He showed this to her by showing her pictures.” He had no toenails... my fingers trembled as I went over each toenail with lemon oil... my head started to throb as all of the Japanese cruelty went rushing through my mind."(43,44). This changed how Sookan felt about grandfather because she thought the reason had no toenails was because of genetic disorder but actually they got torchered so she felt bad for him.
A Man For All Seasons, is a play by Robert Bolt. What would one expect a common man to expose the truth about A Man For All Seasons? It is a man- A common Man, who represents all the common people who are looked down upon. Bolt states in the preface of this play, that the Common Man had been planned to stipulate “that which is common to us all”(xix). The Common Man personifies the neutrality and entireness of the” Common people.” Bolt allows the reader to track which character the common man is playing by providing a different color hat for each character given. Although it seems that his role in the play is not significant, his roles increase in importance throughout the play to give the reader a better understanding of what Bolt is trying

From the Harry Potter series to the television program Gossip Girl, stories contain characters whose actions are immoral, yet readers and viewers develop sympathy for them due to their presentation. Likewise, in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Grandpa’s character is portrayed as immoral. The reader witnesses Grandpa marry a woman for a dishonest reason and then abandon her and his unborn child. However, as the story progresses, the reader discovers Grandpa’s backstory and can sympathize with him. The reader learns the rationales behind his unethical behaviors and Grandpa becomes a sympathetic character. The method Jonathan Safran Foer uses to present Grandpa forms him into a dynamic character about whom the reader’s opinion shifts over the course of the novel.
