The Epic of Gilgamesh is a famous poem that written in ancient Mesopotamia, which tells a story that demonstrates women’s indispensable function for Gilgamesh’s achievements. Book of Genesis is the first section of the Hebrew Bible. This book point out the world was created by the God and the first human beings are Adam and Eve. Book of Job is also a part of the Hebrew Bible. This book explains the origin of the world and the appearance of mankind. It is easy to find out that in these works, women are supposed to follow their subordinate roles and to take care of the housework.
In most of the literature in ancient time, the patriarchal family structure which focus more on great importance. Women take important responsibilities in family. Ninsun which is Gilgamesh’s mother, plays a important role not only in guiding Gilgamesh but also helpe his son to interpret his dreams. Her prayer to the Sun God to protect her son. When Gilgamesh is away, Ninsun takes responsibilities for governing the Uruk. All of these behavior bring her to meet the demands for taking care of children properly. Her behavior also reveals her loyalty to her son and her husband.
In Book of Genesis, the origin of the world is due to the first human Adam and Eve. Eve as the first woman in the world. Eve is the one who created from Adam’s ribs. Eve is tempted by the snake to eat the forbidden fruit. One important reason why Eve suffers from great pain when she gives a baby, because God blames Eve for tempting Adam. The subordinate role of Eve is better reflected in their division of labor after. Adam and Eve are expelled from the Garden of Eden, as Eve is required to obey Adam’s authority.
