“The Wizard of Oz” is a classic film that will never get old. The film was produced in 1939 but aired on TV for the first time in the 1950s. “The Wizard of Oz” is about the journey of a girl, named Dorothy, and her three companions to Emerald City. (8 Things You May Not Know About "The Wizard of Oz") The protagonist in the film is Dorothy. A protagonist is the central figure of the story, the advocate of a central movement or cause. The primary focus of the movie is Dorothy’s desire to go back home, and all other actions resolve that issue. The antagonist of the film is the Wicked Witch of the West. The antagonist is the person or force in the story that is causing the conflict. Throughout her journey to Emerald City, Dorothy faces the trials of the Wicked Witch. This character represents the opposition or the problems found in all the situations. The preferred reading of the “Wizard of Oz” is friendship and adventure. The centerpiece of the film is the journey to Emerald City, where Dorothy, the tin man, the scarecrow, and the cowardly lion hope to find the great Wizard himself. Friendship is showed through the relationships built between the three companions. The exotic landscape and the unique characters are mainly for entertainment, but they also convey a sense of wonder and magic. …show more content…

There are two kinds of family present in the movie. There is the family that you are born into and the family that you chose. On her way back to her biological family, Dorothy meets three companions, the tin man, the scarecrow, and the cowardly lion, that became like her “real” family. “There is no place like home” the character Dorothy states in the film.
