Wiz Khalifa: a macaroni-colored sweatsuit. The vibrant outfit was given to Khalifa by his dad and stepmom when he was 14, and he threw it right in the trash. “It didn't even have a hood on it, so it was like a crew-neck sweatshirt with macaroni pants. Wack,” he said, adding that he still hates it and still hates thinking about it. Ed Sheeran: a lifetime supply of combs. Despite their aunt’s best intentions, Irish pop stars John & Edward were no longer choo-chooing at age 12. “I’m not sure why she thought 12-year-olds would still be into Thomas, but we just smiled and read it anyway,” said Edward. Gary Clark Jr.: a teddy bear. The guitarist was surprised to receive a tiny stuffed animal when he was 23 years old, though it was given to him by “a sweet, sweet person.” “It’s not a bad present,” he explained. “But it’s one of those things where you open it up and you’re like, ‘Um, maybe this isn’t for me?’” Jane McDonald: a self-help book and a nose hair trimmer. She tried to do many things to be “better” than she had been. Showering everyday to be the cleanest version herself made her feel that it enhanced her quality of life. She was doing this day in day out and even sometimes twice a day as part of her “cleanliness”. Donald Trump is a successful businessman who has accomplished more than most people could ever dream of. He started in the real estate business and has his own university, appeared on a T.V. show, is a billionaire, has many golf resorts, and is the president of the United States. He is criticized for many of his comments and political views. Some of these views are him wanting to build a wall to protect the United States from illegal immigrants and drugs, wanting to replace The Affordable Care Act, and banning people from Muslim countries to keep out terrorists. Although Donald Trump is often viewed as a controversial figure, he benefitted the United States of America by improving and creating jobs, proving that non-establishment politicians can still win the presidency, and by making America safer.

In a subtle way, Brush also makes the wife’s actions selfish. Even though her husband was wrong to react in the way that he did, she was also selfish in her actions. Clearly, her husband has a shy personality because “he was hotly embarrassed” (13) in front of “such few people as there were in the restaurant” (11). Using a couple of this age (“late thirties” (1)), Brush asserts that the wife should have known her husband’s preferences and been sensitive to them. The author also uses the seemingly opposite descriptions the couple: “There was nothing conspicuous about them” (5) and the “big hat” (4) of the woman. The big hat reveals the wife’s desire to be noticed.
Jane does not experience a typical family life throughout the novel. Her various living arrangements led her through different households, yet none were a representation of the norm of family life in the nineteenth century. Through research of families in the nineteenth century, it is clear that Jane’s life does not follow with the stereotypical family made up of a patriarchal father and nurturing mother, both whose primary focus was in raising their children. Jane’s life was void of this true family experience so common during the nineteenth century. Yet, Jane is surrounded by men, who in giving an accurate portrayal of fathers and masculinity in the nineteenth century, fulfill on one hand the father role that had never been present in her life, and on the other hand the husband portrait that Jane seeks out throughout the novel.

Why are there so many names on the list, but many of their names are not familiar to the majority of people? This is because, they are not considered, “great.”

Carols, snow, mistletoe, cookies and milk. These are all synonymous with the Christmas season. However, for many, the true staple of Christmas is Santa Claus. Every child has felt the joy of Christmas Eve, spending time with family, leaving treats out for Santa, tossing and turning in their beds in anticipation for old St. Nick’s arrival. Although what Santa does is well known, his origins are slightly less familiar to most. The man we identify with Christmas has developed over a long time and has encountered many changes. “The original St. Nicholas is for the most part a shadowy figure, lost in historical mists and religious myths.
