Schools should not be able to censor books because of its suppressing ideas or writing. Some of these books are apart of our history and we have the right to learn about them. Even if the book is talking about a horrible event from the past, we shouldn't keep the book away from the public. We need to learn from our history so these things don't happen again. Schools need to allow children to learn about these events so that they understand that the world was like this at one point in history. Schools should not be able to censor books because of its suppressing ideas or writing. Students deserve to learn about everything that has happened in history. Therefore, books should not be censored because of truthful things that have happened in the past. Censoring books is also taking away students way of viewing things. For example, if students learn that everything is good in the world and nothing bad ever happened they would go into the real world thinking that everything is fine. …show more content…

Some parents and teachers disagree with having books such as To Kill a Mockingbird in public libraries because of its suppressing ideas or words. For example, a piece of text from a BBC news article, "Its central characteristic is the suppression of an idea or image because it offends or disturbs someone, or because they disagree with it." This line from the text is saying that some teachers and parents believe that books like To Kill a Mocking Bird should be banned because someone might be offended or disagree with the books content. Or that the content in the book might be to damaging for the students to read about. Some parents want to shield their children from the real world and teach them that none of this information ever happened. But, what will happen when a child finds out that there was horrible events that happened in the past? They would not be able to cope with the reality of the real
