Money is the center for many people. Money drives people to places they never thought possible. Money can cause people to forget about the things going on around them. THis happens throughout the great Gatsby many times. Throughout the Great Gatsby Daisy and Gatsby focus on wealth and lose sight of each other's company When Gatsby and Daisy were together before he didn’t have any money so Daisy ended up leaving him for tom who was wealthy. “My house looks well, doesn’t it?”(fitzgerald 89). Gatsby flaunts his house to daisy and all of the money he has in order to get her to come back to him. It ends up working because Daisy is driven by money and has been going for someone with extreme wealth. It when Gatsby was trying to get back with daisy she realizes that he has more money than tom so she leaves him for Gatsby. In doing so she loses sight of how much Gatsby cared for her as she was just focused on his money. …show more content…

From that point on he focused on making as much money as he could to impress Daisy. “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay”(Fitzgerald 78).This shows that Gatsby deliberately bought a grand house across from daisy in hopes that she would see it and be in amazement so he could win her over. Also Gatsby was so focused on making money he turned to some illegal businesses. “It wouldn’t take up much of your time and you might pick up a nice bit of money. It happens to be a rather confidential sort of thing”(Fitzgerald 83).
